I started interviewing at new shops after realizing how badly I was being paid. After two weeks and three interviews, I received my first offer. I was offered nearly a 40% pay increase, two weeks prorated vacation, and an extra dollar more in travel premium. They will help me get my journeyman's card and dive deeper into robotics and PLC programming. The best part, I won't be criticized for leaving under 10-12 hour days as the mostly run 8s. I would never have thought I was worth more if not for this sub. Thank you.
Month: July 2022
I show up to work at my ax throwing job – I love the job, it’s super chill, really easy, honestly I get to just have fun with customers, throw axes, and get paid. It’s very flexible, which is super important while I’m working through grad school. I should mention, we don’t clock in, we are put in the system automatically based on the schedule and managers can adjust on the back end – if for example we stay way late. Anyways, I show up with two minutes to spare, my work shirt on, ready to go (not that there was anything to do) and my manager says “cutting it a little bit close aren’t we?” I said “close? I have two minutes, right?” And he says “yeah, that’s cutting it a bit close isn’t it?” I just laughed it off, saying “I get paid to be here at 6,…
And they were supposed to take effect today. Guess what? Nothing. Couldn't get in contact with HR. My supervisor is on vacation as per usual. I had to ask another supervisor to talk to our scheduling team. Still nothing. It's been 4 hours. How are people with disorders supposed to work? I've been waiting months to get these Accomodations and have been almost let go because of absences. These accomodations should really really help me out. But nah, they don't care. This is why I shit on company time.
The Futility of Finding the Proper Job
Better get my resume ready
I work a part time minimum wage job and I get a fast food meal and I’m like “damn, that’s an hours worth of pay just gone”
HR investigation
I just went thru a terrible HR investigation. I ended up being disciplined at the end of it with having to take training classes and them saying I violated company policy. I didn’t even bring forth a claim to HR. I was not the reason for the investigation either just a witness: i got called in, I answered questions honestly. Then got disciplined. Everyone keeps asking me what happened but I won’t answer them. I’m embarrassed and upset.
Should I unionize?
Hello everyone, this is my first Reddit post so I doubt many people will read this. I currently work for a very popular grocery store chain that is notorious for Union busting. I started working for this company full time about a month ago and have seen first hand how terrible the work conditions are. For the amount of pay that we are given, most of us cannot even afford the groceries we sell with the dumbass 20% discount that we receive. Recently a friend of mine reached out and wanted to help me unionize my job as they work for a organization who helps unionize work places. Although I am very pro-Union, I am scared that I will receive negative backlash for unionizing. I was wondering if anyone on here has attempted to unionize and has any tips to help me accomplish this. There are so many people working…
