I need to get another job to support me

I have a full-time job working 9-5 in an office, with a small salary. I really like my job, and it's on the bottom of a ladder in the career industry I want to work in. But the cost of living has made my disposable income almost miniscule. I've begun to get anxious about social events because of my lack of money. I live in London as well, which means most of my money goes into paying rent, electricity, water, food and travelling to and from work (which costs me about £250 a month). I've begun looking for other jobs to work on the weekend, or in the evenings on weekdays. I've even considered quick and easy forms of passive income. I’ve even considered things that I would never usually consider. I want something that can pay tips, and pay well. But I may become exhausted, and is it sustainable…

First “big kid” job : post college

Hi everyone! I have received an offer from my dream company and dream position in the US. I was curious if anyone has any advice they’d like to share about when accepting an offer and negotiating with HR. Anything is appreciated! Thank you!!

Am I dumb to resign without another job lined up?

A little backstory: I have been at my current position for almost 18 months. It was/is my first job out of college and while I enjoyed it at first, an extreme turnover rate and lack of consistency in my role has caused me to hate it. For context I work at a small firm that generally has 8-12 people working in the office at any given time. In my time here, I have seen 13 people leave or be fired and this has caused my job to become increasingly difficult. It feels as if every couple months someone gets fed up and leaves, leaving me and the others who stay with more work to deal with. The last couple of months have been especially rough, and at this point I don’t really see a future where I am happy here. My issue is I want to resign but don’t have…

Quit work because boss told me that I’m the most expensive employee

Title says it all, not much of a spicey story involved, just some more details in case anyone wants to know more. I started working in this small company three months ago, the job is basically doing different kinds of deliveries by bike. Everyone except me was working part-time, around 30 hoursmonth and they didn't care for the job. All of them did it with the intention of having a nice summer job and earn some extra cash, none of them had to provide for themselves. Imagine students who got food and shelter provided by their parents, but for extra cash they had to work. My situation was different, I have to provide for myself and thus I wanted to work more, so I was hired for 30 hoursmonth. I took a pay decrease of about 20%, but I had much more freedom to schedule my own work, because most…

Looking for a good work life balance as well as a job I can actually do well for once. Feels like my disabilities are part of the reason it feels so hard to find something

I have autism, dyspraxia & mild learning difficulties. I have gone down a dark period of my life where I kept getting fired for not doing well enough in multiple jobs and was unemployed for a time. My current job is a 0 hour contract and I’m not getting many hours at all and I’m getting bored of it too. I like the idea of self employment or freelancer as I am my own boss and can potentially make better money then I would get at a traditional job and I could also be my own boss and take holidays without having to be approved and just be able to have more free time then a regular 9-5 which I want to get away from at this point ideally and I wouldn’t have to worry about being fired or not good enough. I just want a job that I can…

“Essentially yes”

Today I rang into my retail job due to experiencing covid symptoms and anxiety (complex’s mental health but we won’t go into that) to protect myself, my coworkers and the members of the public, you know, like decent people do. Manager: “isolating isn’t mandatory so you still have to come in” Me: “so I’ll just have to pass it around to everyone in the shop then?” Manager: “Essentially yeah…” Me: “sorry, I don’t feel comfortable doing that.” Manager: Tone changes to pissed off very quickly “so you’re ringing in sick” Me: “essentially, yes” Manager: “ok, bye” puts phone down. Why should we be made to feel bad for being ill AND protecting those around us? Why should we be made to feel guilty for taking the time we need to heal from our illnesses. I’m sat with such stress and anxiety today – is it even worth it anymore if…

Former employer expects me to send their equipment back 2 months after firing me.

Throwaway for obvious reasons. Long story short, I was fired from my job after 5+ years with the company in early June. Today, late July, I get an email from the company telling me to expect an email from FedEx with the nearest shipping locations to pick up labels and boxes to send their equipment back. The email I get has locations 60 miles away. They are fully aware of my home address, and they tell me I should make a 120 mile round trip instead of going to the one that's literally 0.2 miles away. I'm sure this was a mistake and they don't actually expect me to make a 120 mile round trip, but the people at this company have been useless, so who knows. Some questions, I guess. I can't just ignore their email, can I? I have several personal items left in the office from pre-pandemic…

Boss yelled at me over the phone for an inconsequential mistake

My asshole boss yelled at me for a stupid minor mistake on Friday. Today I said I would cover a bunch of things for her and then just didn’t show up and sent an email to her saying. “Oh I couldn’t make it because I decided to quit, look who has a spine now.” Then I blocked all her contact numbers. She was a total bitch to me and her yelling at me got way too personal. Some people shouldn’t be bosses. Hope she got screwed over.

Panic attacks led to me getting fired / me quitting.

Ive been working 7 months, 6 days a week now for a small nameless diner. Its been fun, besides the people that come in there and get fired within a couple hours,my manager/owner of the diner drinks beers at 2pm because of the lifestyle, and the area of the restaurant. Also should mention that i was the only dishwasher and had more prep than ive done at any restaurant. Bringing in orders from the food truck alone. Even had to bring in extra from boss’s wife’s car. He would have his kids helping him with prep sometimes; obviously that not being very workplace environment with them slipping and sliding on the wet floors… Anyway, i had a stressful last few weeks, not eating anything in the mornings, and sometimes not even eating all day because “its too busy”. Like that was ever a good excuse to starve, it came to…

Just no called no showed to a restaurant job that won’t allow their employees a break during 9 hour shifts.

How do I contact OSHA effectively to warrant an investigation? They even told us at orientation that we should take it up with them instead of other human rights organizations.
