Feel so down
I can’t find the motivation to do my job. It’s ridiculous I feel this way. I am self employed. I have my own little business just me, myself, and I. Yet, I still hate it. I am trying so hard to be grateful. I can wear whatever I want, listen to my favorite podcasts and music all day, make my own schedule and basically have vast amounts of freedom. The lack of benefits and mindless amounts of administration work tho is overwhelming and my attitude of gratitude went down the shitter months ago. Like fuck I’m basically never off work. I’m organizing my car, talking with clients, doing my own marketing and scheduling, laundering work towels and washing equipment and then the regular day to day job. It never ends. And if I back off on tasks they pile up to an enormous work load. I’m just feeling there really…
Seize your summer job
How should I go about getting my money back for the uniform? Is there anything I can do about them lying about my pay? Is there a possibility to sue them due to working in an unsafe enviorment? I feel scammed and used. The whole ordeal has just stressed me and my wife out. Been working at this Chinese food restaurant for over 3 months. On the application and during the interview I was never informed that I would be having to pay for the mandatory t-shirt and hat. They charged me 30$ for it and took it out of my first paycheck. I was told I would be making between 19-26$/hr being a delivery driver with an hourly pay of 8.75$ + tips. I averaged out my pay from the last 3 months and am only making about 13$ an hour. I hardly able to get deliveries and spend…
where was I born?
We are having a team building exercise for our staff of about 30 tomorrow. I got the list of questions in advance and one of them is to state where we were born. I doubt the manager is asking for nefarious reasons, but it just hits me wrong. I am pretty sure I can pull off saying I was born in Wakanda with a straight face. But what are some better responses? My current strategy is to simply lie and say some random city where a lot of people who look and sound like me live.
BS that a boss pulled at old job…
This was years ago but still bugs the hell out of me. I worked for a US Department of Energy Laboratory and this was something that was allowed without any disciplinary measures taken. I went out on medical leave due to a work place injury – I was actually hospitalized and put into assisted living due to the injury. Shortly after I went on medical leave, I received notice that my security clearance re-investigation paperwork was due and I needed to turn it in by X date. I wrote back saying I was on medical leave and not allowed to do ANY work (Workman's Comp). I told them that since this was considered a work function that I would turn the paperwork in as soon as I returned to work with an expected date of return. They didn't like that and I had to get Occ Med to deal with…
Fuck dealerships. Just got fired.
Well, technically I just got sent home pending investigation but I'm not going back. Fuck 'em. I worked for a dealership as their title clerk. My job was to make sure customers got their title paperwork in a timely manner. Most of the time, I was able to accomplish this. But the DMV makes everything such a goddamn nightmare. I think they purposely reject things just to extort more money out of us. Anyway… I work for a dealership in Kansas. I have been dealing with trying to register a customer's paperwork in Texas and the DMV won't lift a finger to help. They have rejected the paperwork three times, but won't respond to emails or phone calls when I try to reach out for help. Every time I get the paperwork back, there is some other miniscule problem with it that wasn't there before. So naturally the customer is…
My manager – who works at a different office 3,000 miles away – continues to insist that I return to work at the (local to me) office. Claims he doesn't have “visibility” into how I spend my time. Which is about the fourth or fifth different reason he has given for ending WFH for our team. I think he's finally tipped his hand, though. It's not about collaboration, or the hallway interaction, or even setting an example – if we're working from home, and not on the company network, the spyware on our laptops can't phone home. Which makes sense, since the other latest directive is to reiterate that we're strictly forbidden to use any personal devices for work functions.
