I potentially have Aspergers/HFA and am really fucking sick of how shitty some coworkers can be. Most of the younger people are nice enough but some of the “lifers” in retail can be so disgustingly cruel and petty. I know a lot of this is downstream from terrible working conditions, from the short staffing to unaccountable management to absurd penny pinching and insultingly low wages but it's frustrating to see how much of the social darwinist thinking that prevades the algorithmic dictates of capital can come to be reflected amomg those who are “the most wretched commodity” in relation to other wage laborers. Like okay, we're all stuck working in this retail shithole, why make it worse by being a little asshole? I’m in the UK and I earn just above minimum wage so like £10.00, I need to find another job where I can progress but for some strange reason I feel bad for leaving, I can’t get myself to leave I’m like attached to this job. I don’t have a nasty manager either he helps me out and everyone there is chill, I’ve left this place twice and come back, it was my first job but now I’m older I know I need to find a better paying job but I can’t get myself to leave this place

My current job is overnight at a grocery store hanging tags,cleaning and Self Checkout. Tags is awful. We dont have enough people,they demand I finish(way too many) before leaving. This is hours after my shift ends. I once stayed till 15 hrs. This is getting stupid. My store manager doesnt know how to talk to people and was really on the warpath last Tues. Im so sick of him. Hes ridiculous. I want to not do tags,but the last convo I had about it,he asked if I was resigning and then was like “you're affecting my sales” and just being an ass. I honestly shouldve resigned. This is a union place too,Im a union member,but they arent a good one. They dont fight hard. They charge a lot in dues though. The only real benefit is that I cant be fired for some stupid shit. I had to overhear her laughing about it to someone else! The owner/boss ofc didn’t offer her a day off, or send a storewide email to us, or put up security camera photographs or anything. Just a “teehee, watch out for orange hair guy” from the manager. Can someone else confirm I’m not crazy for thinking this is all nuts?

I live/work in California at a restaurant. I was waiting for my manager to finish my checkout and give me my tips so that I could clock out and go home. During this time I am still running food and drinks to tables. When I go to grab my tips from his office I ask for his card to clock out and he said he already clocked me out. He told me that I was “milking the clock” and that next time it would be a write up. He claimed an unknown amount for my tips as me, and threw away my clock out slip (which i always save bc they will adjust my hours frequently). I am fed up with this shit and would like to know what action i can take.

This was what I received from my boss after asking for help regarding having to put my dog to sleep and not being able to make my 5 AM shift because of it. I worked at Starbucks for over 2.5 years and called out/was out sick a total of three or four times.

Hello! I follow this sub and I'm baffled by all posts about managers being asholes and people living paycheck to paycheck. I've seen posts about people making 50k+ a year but still live paycheck to paycheck? As I Swede this sounds shocking to me. I'm curious about what kind of expenses you have and how much they are. For example I pay 10$ total for insurances a month and have a rent at about 670$ in Stockholm Sweden. Groceries about 200$, public transportation 100$, in total my recurring expenses end up at about 1000$ (I share apartment with my so) so with my salary at about 44k I can live very comfortably and save between 1000-1500$ a month easily.
