The top 10% in this miserable shit hole state are positively giddy with the prospect of being able to exploit an even younger group of slaves. Sickening.

I work in the entertainment industry which is notorious for blacklisting so throwaway. Context: I gave my two weeks notice 13 days ago and tomorrow is my last day. I work in the lighting department and am the light board operator for the two shows that the company is running right now. Show A runs Thursday and Friday. Show B runs Sunday. The reason why I gave my two weeks was lack of communication by my company manager and a really nice job offer. The company manager promised a contract back in early April but has never produced it. While I don't trust this person I trust their bosses who I've been friends with for years so pay isn't an issue, I know I'll get payed. Recently this company has had a lot of turn over in other departments. Two in Wardrobe, two Stage Managers and one Cast member. All…
I will try to make this as short as possible, there are 2 things that are important for the story. That I live in a European country that holds a high standard for workers' rights. that I am a Muslim. back when I first graduated from highschool I decided to take a gap year and work before pursuing college education. A family friend has offered me a job to work in a Halal meat production factory. The pay was absolute shit (less than 5 USD an hour) and I would work non stop for 10 hours, 6 days a week. Needless to say that the minimum wage in the country that I live in is 4 times as high so he refused to give me a contract and said it was “part time” when I was worked 10 hours a day, also there wasn't an overtime pay. I was young…

I'm a Data Analyst. There are times when colleagues piss me off. It could be someone telling me to pull huge amounts of data (some of which is unnecessary), someone trying to get complex data to solve simple problems, or even just general high expectations of data. I get pissed off a lot from working with people who don't have business experience and think they know data. I also get pissed on little things from colleagues. For example, a higher ranking employee had set a dinner with me one night and I cleared my day, and then he cancelled last minute. I'm the type of person who makes my anger apparent. I will stop talking to you, talk to you in a stern tone, complain about you, maybe even outburst if it gets to it. But I've been told by family and friends to be diplomatic. My boss is a…
Hack for Quitting Without Notice
I thought it went without saying, but I've seen a lot of people thinking they have to give two weeks notice because they can't afford unpaid time before starting a new job. All you have to do is start the new job in two weeks without telling anyone at your old job. If your start date is Aug 30, you quit “on the spot” on Aug 29. No notice, no gap in pay, and you start your new job immediately. Congrats!
IT workers desperately need a union.
Everyone from service desk to the most advanced positions need a union. I don’t care if they make $100k+ a year, we all need a union. I am in IT, admittedly not very high in the chain. I took some courses, passed some certifications, and got in the industry. We fucking need a union. L2s in my company are on call all the time. They make the same as L1s. L1s havent seen a raise since 2020, and inflation has hit hard and fast, now at 8.5%+ a year. The schedule for L1s changes from day to night with barely a weeks notice. Off hours desk gets the same rate of pay as business hour workers. Bilingual workers get paid more, but monolingual workers still have to take those Spanish and French tickets and do their best with translators. We need a fucking union. We’re doctors for the companies bottom…
Promotions announcement last week….
Little over a month ago they made redundancies. Last week they promoted some people, mostly people in management of course, though to their credit some ground level workers too. Everyone else was given a blanket 1.5% raise because they “can't afford” to match inflation. Even though they literally just spent a ton of money giving managers promotions This is probably still a lot better than a lot of companies will do but I found it insulting. I already have 2 other job offers and I plan to accept one of them and quit early next week. I guess since they can't afford to give a proper cost of living pay raise, they'll instead have to be able to afford replacing people. Both of those offers are at least a 10% raise for me.
