I am a Junior embedded Sw Engineer and I have been working for this company for one year. This is my first real experience in this field since my previous experiences were in other domains of sw. The whole team is composed by more experienced people. For all the project I had little guidance. I had to ask questions to get information and there has never been a proper training. We immediately work on this project for this other company. Also english is not my native language and the whole discussions were in English and I moved country from another non english speaking country to get this job which make things even harder. Regular work week is 40 hours but we need to take Labor Day off on Monday as it’s a federal holiday. So, we have to work 10 hour days on Tuesday – Friday to make up for it without additional holiday pay. That’s even more exhausting! When I say I can’t do those hours boss gets upset. This happens at every holiday and I’m sick of it. Literally missing the point of the holiday.

Is it illegal for a business owner to take money from employee tip jars? She claims she puts it back after getting change out of the register but there’s been some sightings of her pocketing the money and never put any of it back. Just curious..

I interviewed for a role in the Healthcare industry that fits what I am looking for. It's a top 5 Healthcare company. Did 2 interviews, both went great. Really built rapport with hiring manager, got a bunch of referrals from my network that they work with. During those interviews, was told that I am what they are looking for, only one that is license and have previous experience. Pay can range from 53k min to 68k max, both with incentives. They asked me if I was okay with that range, I am. Got an offer, expecting to get at least middle if not close to max. They offer me the minimum…what a fricking slap in the face. I go back with a counter asking them to raise it…would 55k + incentives work? WTF?

I had a bad attack at work yesterday and left 15 minutes early. I made sure my tables were fine (I’m a waitress). Started not breathing very well and took my inhaler. It didn’t help so I called my mom to get me and told my manager. She didn’t say anything and I went home to relax and decided on going to the ER if it got worse. Messaged her and she didn’t say anything back. I’m expected at work at 6 today and she just messaged me at 2 and said I’m fired for being unreliable and “low work standards”. I’ve never had a problem at work, she’s never gave me any feedback and I’ve been there for 2 months. She didn’t even ask if I was okay. She’s a really bad manager. What do I do? Do I sue? what's at-will employment even for, anyways? it seems like an excuse for them to fire you the afternoon after you return from taking sick leave due to an injury, but being fine legally because they just tell you “the vibes are off”. good riddance like genuinely. wtf???

I was offered a job and they sent me the letter to sign and I even got the email with the job offer hours/pay etc. and then I am speaking to the manager and just mentioned my strict hours (which i mentioned before in the interview just so I could avoid this) and now they said they would ‘call me back’ they already offered me a job and I signed it and we were talking about orientation and now because the people who were hiring didn’t communicate with each other now I’m in limbo. I’ve already put my two weeks notice in and everything. I’m a single mother and my hours are only what daycare can offer me and I’m in tears. Any suggestions since they already offered me the job?

I'm currently on a training call and the presenter is talking about how to 'effectively use your down time'. They listed things like: reading an industry article, make a Linkedin post, ask others if they need help, etc. I'm sick of this nonsense. At no point was any of the following mentioned: have a cup of coffee without thinking about work, calling a loved one, relaxing, go for a walk, etc. I hate this growing expectation that every second most be utilized in a 9 hour day (8am-5pm with the expectation of having a 30 minite lunch usually at your desk). Also on this 'training' we are being advised to use after hours time to figure out ways to be more effective/efficient as if I give two flying fucks about my work when I'm not required to. I don't want to network, i don't want more tasks or more responsibilities.…
