About a month ago my office was sitting in on a ‘Townhall Meeting’. For those not in the corporate world, these meetings are usually the higher-ups talking about some new policy or project coming down the pipeline. On this particular meeting we had the chance to ask questions regarding the over all state of the economy and what our company is doing to counteract inflation, cost of living, that sort of thing…. The most upvoted question in the chat was “with rising food and fuel costs what is (Company Name) doing to help their employees offset the high cost of living? If we can WFH can we go back to a hybrid schedule at least to help save on gas?” The VP chuckled to himself and said, “Buy bikes”. I haven’t attended another Townhall meeting since. I’m sure you guys have heard similar verbiage from management in some for or…
Month: August 2022
So a while ago I posted a thread about a boss pulling some bullshit on me before I even worked . You all told me she wouldn't change and that it would blow up. Well it did So I do my job teaching special needs kids. I'm good at it and the current kid loved me. But apparently that wasn't good enough. The supervisor has 3 fucking Whatsapp groups, emails me and texts me. 5 fucking lines of communication. I barely answer them cause I don't need her input or help except in rare circumstances and also cause I don't like her. This apparently offended her Today she calls me up crying about how I missed her emails (I didn't she just sent us some worksheets for the kids. I didn't think this merited a response) and missed some messages on Whatsapp. I told her “hey if you want to…
My job is driving me crazy this week
Okay, so I am an Office Administrator for a construction company. Basically, I do everything that has absolutely nothing to do with building stuff. I'm a cross between the secretary and the accountant. I usually love my job, it combines every skill I'm good at into one. This week, however… I work for a small company. It's me, two bosses and the laborers. Our primary boss went on vacation this week. The secondary boss had the option to, but she decided not to. However, she is so mad that PB went on vacation, that she is refusing to do any work this week. I found that out this morning when I got informed that she was mad at me because yesterday I called her twice with work stuff (at 10am and 2pm), and it woke her up. Keep in mind that she didn't answer either time and has yet to…
I recently have been applying for a few bartending jobs, one specifically at a ski resort. I have many years of bartending experience including at ski resorts. Both my references were supervisors from my old resort and would have nothing but great things to say on my behalf. Yesterday I had a phone interview for a bartending position at the resort. It want very well but at the end, the interviewer mentioned my nose ring and red hair. I remembered they had required a photo in the application, which I thought was weird at the time but didn’t question it. Today I received an email saying they couldn’t hire me due to my hair color and that they wouldn’t be offering me a position (to work as a bartender mind you.) Is it legal to require a photo of the candidate in the application process? Is it legal to outright…
I applied to a promotional opportunity last week and in the interview was asked why I want to take this position and why I want to leave my current one. I told the interviewer there isn’t much work to be done at my current role after a certain hour and that I want to expand my skillsets and knowledge. HR called me into their office after to say I was “too negative” to be considered for the role and then they want someone who’s “enthusiastic” about showing up to work for them. Today they sent me an email encouraging me to apply for the same job, just with a shitty schedule (Monday, Thurs-Saturday 4pm – 2:30am). I just laughed that they think my “negativity” will magically disappear when I fuck up my circadian rhythm and normal way of life to work the same job I wanted originally during a schedule…
So I was wondering…?
If destroying yourself going above and beyond for a company… is it worth it? Like, there are guys in japan, LITERALLY dying when they sit down to eat lunch because they work so friggen much. And that's cool? Maybe not but a ton of weirdos in America says the ethic is cool… So give your life to your job, sacrifice everything, time, definitely money, and things that hold more value over the time you're wasting… why's that not on the news? If killing yourself for a job were the IN thing as it always has been, how come people aren't being celebrated for their deaths? Life long at a company (boomer years) to barely get a 1mill pension? No coverage. none…. Pretty sure that pension doesn't exist anymore either. Just a thought, if wasting away at a job was sooooooo great for people, where are the advocates across the country…
