I have been with this company for 4+ years and each year I become more miserable. It wasn’t until recently that I started really dreading even stepping foot into the store. There’s way too much drama, store management does what they want ie: leaving early, never does a closing shift, leaves in the middle of a shift just to go clothes shopping etc. it’s just so draining. I really need to grow a pair and just quit but I’m so afraid of life not working the way I want it to. I have absolutely nothing lined up but I don’t know if I mentally can deal with this hell hole.

Intrusive Management Rant
I made a post a little while ago regarding more on this topic but long story short, management MADE me go home ob multiple occasions at a new job and now they are hyperfocusing on me. I work in a place that is like every other place by the sounds of it. They are super paranoid about Covid and sickness but also get mad when you are actually sick. So really I feel it's all virtue signaling. I was made to stay home on multiple occasions (twice for having symptoms, once because my husband was positive) and then it got thrown at me that I'm “taking advantage” and have had “too many sick days.” I began to have chest congestion and had a cough. It was one of those times where you aren't sure if you are getting sick, if it's allergies etc. I said nothing (I never will again…
Nursing home story
I was working in a Nursing home in Indiana from Aug 2020 to Oct 2021. I was hired into a management position, Customer care coordinator. I had no previous healthcare experience, just a lot of years in customer service and mid management. I was hired in at the salary of 52,000 a year. My previous job had collapsed due to the pandemic and This kind of income in 2020 for a degree less single mom is hard to come by in my area, and def contributed to the ignoring and excusing of on my part. My primary responsibility was as the grievance officer. I was also responsible for the facilitation of a customer care program, new admission responsibilities as well as D/c tasks. I’m very good with people so I was quickly saddled with employee moral responsibilities as well. Honestly had no clue to the scam I was involved in…
My friend is an at-home call center person. For the last few months she would log in, fiddle with her connectivity, and tell her boss she had to call the Help Desk to get it sorted out. She'd then shut her laptop, go for a run, and get paid for the day. Months! At $15/hour, I'd say she's getting a fair rate.
This is not fair
I signed up with abf for the licensing program and was guaranteed a job while i went through the process and the academy. Now I finished school and I have the DMV test in 3 weeks. I called the manager where I am going to work and he told me “come to work on Monday for 4 hours a day” 20 hours a week how the hell am I supposed to be able to pay my bills with 20 hours a week? If you guarantee me a job, I don't care if it's in the dock or cleaning the building, but make sure you give me a job because I left my previous job to enter the world of trucks and I did it because you guaranteed me a job. this is the reason why companies are saying that people do not want to work
There is a tension between democracy and wealth-hoarding, and America is an experiment in both. We are a strange mixture of democratic ideals from Classical Greece and hierarchical capitalism from Renaissance Europe. That’s an explosive combination. The wealth of American capitalism has been protected from democratic redistribution by a shocking series of propaganda campaigns. This mini-essay series illustrates the point by drawing an analogy with a matador… Read the rest here.
Always fight for your rights
A couple of years ago, a coworker was fired because of his prosthetic. The woman who fired him admitted as much. He obviously fought it but was willing to settle, kept his job and went on with life. A week ago, she saw him breaking a minor rule, didn't write him up but instead decided to fire him for a write up from right after he got his prosthetic, just over two years ago. If this doesn't reek of retaliation, I need to change the litter box. This time, he's not going to settle. My husband and I (all 3 of us work together) will likely be dragged into it for his side, but I will gladly lend him my support. Let them (job) try to intimidate either of us. Thanks to this sub, I know all about getting everything in writing or recording, keep those receipts.
Started a company, income taxed at 40%!
I live in Ireland. As my username suggests, I make wood pendants. Because I've been 'unemployed' (stay at home dad with an Etsy shop) so long, the Department of Social Protection insisted I get a job. So I made my little business official. Only to be penalised for doing the right thing! If I earn the same money from a normal job I would pay no income tax at all. But show just a little initiative and guess what? They screw you into the ground. Income tax, corporate tax, rate tax… there's probably a tax on taxes. I feel like giving up, but going back to being unemployed will mean I get nothing. Rock, meet hard place. Sorry for venting, you are all awesome.
