I was at a networking event recently where people could bring projects they're working on. There was a woman, maybe late 30s/early 40s, who was working on homework from a web design class. I had taken a similar course, so I asked her about it. She said she WAS a corporate lawyer. I asked “Was?” She said she was a lawyer for a corporation for a decade, and then decided to quit and go back to school to learn web design. I assume lawyers, even corporate ones, make great money. Depending on the company it can also be incredibly secure. It also takes a lot of schooling and brains to become a lawyer (I've known some people who went to law school, it's no joke). But nope. She just quit out of the blue with no backup plan and decided to study web design. I've done web design before and…

Another company with better pay and less hours offered me an interview. I’d like to go but they called me and arranged a meeting in the same time that I work, and I can’t contact the lady that called me anymore.
Burn out recovery
I just recently (about 2 weeks ago) quit my low paying 3rd shift Janitor job of three and half years at a local college due to burn out blow out. Had panic attack and just bailed. I have money saved up and low bills so I can last for awhile not working. Also I have (or had) gig job as a parking lot attendant but I can't muster the will to go. I've signed up for like five shift and have called out for four and just not showed up for one. I'm surprised they still hmu up for them. It's whatever I don't care. Not like I have to put it on my resumé I don't want to blow thru my savings. How have y'all been able to recover from burn out from living in last stage capitalism?
I was poached out of my last job for more money. Everyone told me more money means they own you all the time. Well, I had this vaca planned in the mountains I told them prior to hiring. It was approved and agreed as unpaid time off. I do make a lot of money (6 figs) and I started a few weeks ago and have a 9 work days unpaid time off as condition of me working there. Right before I left I was told I need to take over something that someone else was working on because they have unexpected time off. I was not given any milestone deadlines at the time of leaving only the final deadline. I do not have a work phone or way to check emails only slack. Didn’t bring laptop bc i have barely connection and will be in mountains most the time and…
Company is having an event 4 hours after work is over however they never specified if the event is paid or unpaid. What would you do? I am thinking to ask the district manager if the event is pad and if not tell him I appreciate the sentiment but I will not be able to come. EDIT – I am in the USA and an hourly employee
Because I don’t wanna work a job I’ll hate my family has branded me the lazy unmotivated one it does wonders for my self-esteem and really motivates me to want a shit job even more!
Is your boss guilty of ‘quiet firing’?
I’ve worked in non-sales role in sales oriented organizations for the last few years. Every single one has had an unwritten rule that you should always call people repeatedly – “next day, two days, one week, two week, one month” is the clearest I’ve heard it articulated. Except it’s usually more frequent than that. Salespeople I work with are constantly calling people who’ve told them no. I do some operational work where I sometimes reach out to people and it’s not uncommon for them to grumble “so and so just doesn’t understand, I’m on vacation.” Worse, not only do the clients get calls like this, the salespeople try to get me to apply pressure too, usually without telling me when they’ve called (and passively aggressively refusing to do so when requested) so that I get lovely responses like “so and so just called!!! What is wrong with you people!?” Recently,…
