I'm 18, I work full-time in a slaughterhouse, part-time as a model and I'm in college. One is physically draining, the other mentally draining and the latter is both, and if my family wasn't on the brink of complete misery, I would quit all of them. Going to college gives me some perspective of a better life, but as time passes and I watch my country fall apart before my eyes, this hope vanishes, I work cutting and packing the meat I can't afford, I stay until late after work hours to snoop some bones so we can have some protein for dinner, I also witness the glamour of the elite life, always so close but out of my reach. I worked for a tech company last year and in Dec, my boss told me his hands were tied at giving me a cost of living raise because I was at the top of my title range. I ended up putting in my notice, for one, I was doing multiple job duties outside of my title and for two, I knew my male coworkers with the same title were making roughly 20% more than me. Now, 8 months later, they still hadn’t been able to fill my seat and reached out to me to reapply. During the process, I asked for a desired salary of about 35% of what I had been making. They came back saying that 10% above is the max for the title, which was more than what my previous boss offered but still less than my male coworkers made. I stuck to my guns and doubled…

So I took last friday off due to stress from my job and went to see my doc. I called my HR dept to get FMLA papers sent to my doc as doc was putting me on FMLA for a few days, along with meds to help with my anxiety depression etc. Of course I was going to quit anyway but that very day my job was posted on Indeed. I seen it posted yesterday and it said it was posted 3 days ago. So I'm in limbo at this moment. My HR called me today because doc hasn't returned the paperwork! I guess I'm just venting again. In the UK we have just had a bank holiday Monday and it's the first time in a long time that I've actually felt recovered from a weekend with enough energy to do something for myself on the extra day off. Usually, I just spend the weekend sat on my arse, and don't even have the will to do the most basic things like food shop or visit family. I feel like each week I am drained 5 soul points, and can recover 2 on the weekend. I definitely could be more productive in 4 days of work than 5. There is a days worth of dilly-dallying each week which just feels demotivating and further sinks productivity. Some companies in the UK are trialing a 4-day week with no drop in pay. I am really hoping the results show it is possible to maintain productivity and if so, more employers…

Do not be fooled. People doing 80 hour weeks are busy fools and there's always an alternative solution. I wish someone told me this when i eas younger.
