Hello all, Well I'm in the interview process for a company in my state, located in my city. I had my first remote interview, which went well, and was contacted by HR via email afterward that the company would like to follow up my interview with a skills test; the problem is, the skills test would be in person at the HR office over an hour away (2+ hours round-trip) and I'm not even sure how long it takes. I'm not too keen on traveling over 100 miles out of my own pocket when the job description never mentioned this, the position is advertised as being located in my city, and I haven't even received an offer yet. I simply do not want to waste potentially three hours out of my day just to potentially receive a rejection when I have another interview that same day. It's legal, sure, but…
Month: August 2022
So I have epilepsy and from time to time have brutal seizures. Last night was no exception in fact last night was probably one of my scariest. My brother walked into my room he said I was on my back with throw up covering my mouth and nose to where it looked like I couldn’t breath. He said he could see my face change color and hear me trying to gasp for air. Thank god he was there and was able to save me. I ended up chewing my tongue and mouth up pretty bad making talking and eating a real pain but I thought I’d recover fast and be able to make my shift today. I woke up in more pain than I was in the previous day so I ended up texting my boss that I wasn’t going to be able to make it due to that. To…
At the store where I used to work, the managers would bend over backwards to accommodate anyone who screamed and yelled at us. They'd be showering them with free stuff and writing us up and yelling at us even if we just made an honest mistake. The truth is, being a Karen works very well. Managers are so afraid of losing business that the mental well-being of employees means nothing to them. Unless this changes and they can learn to say “fuck you,” it'll continue to be a problem.
Too bad they micromanage
I just finished listening to this episode of The Daily:https://www.nytimes.com/spotlight/podcasts, and i knew that workplace spying was bad but i didn't know it was this bad. during the whole episode i kept thinking “if they rolled this out at my workplace, that would be my last day”. Granted I'm a bit neuro atypical so my work style involves time away from my keyboard to think and plan, but why is anyone accepting this intrusion? its just the rich and powerful trying to find any excuse to dock pay so they can keep more for themselves and their shareholders masters. I know about mouse jigglers, but that concedes the ground to the corporations that installing these spying tools is ok in the first place. sorry for the rant, but I want to know if I'm off base – would you tolerate these intrusions in your workplace? Context: im a software architect/internal…
Actually kind of genius
I put in my two weeks because I got an offer for a better paying job that is closer to home new flagship work phone so I don’t need to use my personal phone for work anymore, gas card, new laptop( all provided and paid for by the company), remote options… basically everything my job has not shown willingness to be until now. The owner and my manager are going back and forth about what it would take for me to stay. I told them I can’t I’ve done everything with the new company and they’re ready and waiting for me with my computer phone and gas card. As I sit while they hash it out I’m wondering where they think they’re going to get the money to keep me here if it hasn’t been here and given this entire time. It’s insane how there were no resources to pay…
I don't know if Mega Thread is the appropriate title, but this didn't quite feel like update 4. I have decided to make a single thread for Knead with all of the information I know with links down below in order for all of you wonderful comrades who have been following this. Five days ago, on August 19th, Knead workers in Harrisburg, PA presented to the owners of Knead Slice Shop a petition to hold a union election. They have been organizing this for months and went public this day. Within hours of this announcement, Knead closed the main location temporarily “due to COVID and not having enough workers to work the necessary shifts,” despite the workers saying publicly they are available and ready to work. On their Instagram post about temporarily closing, they deleted any comment (and blocked the user) that mentioned the union, before disabling comments all together.…
