boss tried to decline my holiday twice
(for context i live in new zealand). just wanted to share this story cos i’m still in awe about it lol. 6 months ago i started a new job in a supermarket/food wholesaler and about 1 month after that we got a new manager. 2 weeks ago i put in leave for 10 days at the end of the year and manager said he would get back to me on it. last week he says it’s been declined because “you know, christmas/new years is the busiest time of the year so we need all hands on deck! you can have a few days off here and there beforehand if that helps” (me thinking: that sounds like utter garbage) i say “i’ll be in [city 8 hours away] so i won’t be able to work” he says “oh that’s gonna be a hard one. let me speak to upper management and…
Are you all worried about layoffs in this climate? One of the major Healthcare facilities in our area just announced massive layoffs today. I find myself suddenly paranoid, in this city when one huge business pulls a stunt like this, the others follow suite pretty quickly. The sick thing is the CEO of this company makes 1.4 million (as a not for profit, those numbers are accessible to the public), while their lowest eschloen front line workers are getting 13/hr and are likely the first on the chopping block. Just disgusting to see. I've worked hard over the last several years to get to my current spot, but I'm in a department that is normally the first to get sacrificed if any cut needs to be made…after seeing that news, I can't stop fretting over it. How do you stop a worry like this?
This sub really did turned into misery echo chamber, I hope you will wake up someday and eat the mods as well. Anyway peace out, was a good 20 min discussion.
my boss said…
my boss told me n my partner who work min wage for her that we have a power dynamic over her bc we know she needs us. she is both our boss and landlord. I cannot comprehend how she could even see this perspective – these people in charge are really getting more bold by the hour anyone else ready to quit their job rn

The calls for censorship
I just went through the thread that some user posted about only allowing for a certain ideology to be heard on this sub. I was surprised to find that it was supported and rewarded greatly. I’m not an active user here at all but I make this post to pose a question: isn’t this the same kind of thing we see in the “super-woke” movements of the modern day? An unwillingness to listen to anyone that doesn’t agree, a negative-labeling of anyone who doesn’t agree, etc? It seems like an extremely anti-progressive mindset to adopt. Ideas should withstand scrutiny and people learn from others with opposing viewpoints. I wonder what the point of this sub would be if it were just a bunch of people agreeing with each other about every minor detail.
Bonus questions: How does the economy work? Is there economy? Like what are we really talking about here? What do we do all day? I truly do not understand it. But maybe I’m taking it too literally?
