How do we actually end work?
This sub has a lot of generally good content but very little coherent identity. I was wondering how, individually, you each imagine that the problems around labor can be addressed. I am assuming that most of us agree that work cannot literally be ended, but if someone has an idea about how that can be done, I'm open to hearing about it.
So like my subject line says, my wife's company was bought out. As of tomorrow, she's going to be paid for half of her PTO, amounting to about $2k in lost wages from the company bought out because the new company is using unlimited PTO. I've been arguing with her there's something fishy about that, but her company's handbook is vague and only covers if an employee leaves. Am I wrong here or is there something fucked up going on?
I’m turning in my notice at my job tomorrow. I was talking to my wife, mom, and brother today and they asked me if I had typed up my notice already. I said no; I’m going to write it in sharpie on a piece of loose leaf right before I leave for work. They all looked at me like I was crazy. For background, I worked at that job for ~5 years, then quit for a different career. Unfortunately, that career didn’t work out so 5 months after quitting my old boss actually reached out to me and offered me a LOT more money to come back, so I did. I’ve been there for 4 years at this point and I hate it. I’m burned out, overworked, and under appreciated (basically the hat trick of this subreddit). I’m giving them 7 days notice and I plan on using my PTO…
We’re not lazy. We’re criticizing the bullshit capitalist system that essentially turns all working people into slaves for the wealthy class.
Any system that relies on absolute ideological purity will, and should, fail. I found r/antiwork as a sub where workers (remember workers?) could commiserate about the abuses of corporations and powermad bosses. We could share our common experiences, organize and strategize. Apparently, it's just for the cool kids who follow the code. I hope this sub blows up and eats the mods. Actually, as a liberal, I wish them well too, but I hope they grow the fuck up. I await your ban.
