I am not your shrink.
Is anyone going on interviews and the interview just DUMPS all their personal problems and the companies problems on you???? This guy just talked about himself for an HOUR, his inability to do HIS job, talked about what a horrible place it was to work, and the low morale and how everyone is “just sick of the bullshit” asked me NOTHING about my resume or my qualifications. Literally 0. Gave me a tour of the building for some unknown reason, and asked me when I could start. I asked him what the pay was and he said he didn’t KNOW. I’ve been on a lot of interviews this year and this is a pretty standard interview at this point. The only reason it stood out was that the carpeting smelled so fucking bad I really regret going on a “tour of the facilities” as I’m still nauseous.
Customer-facing jobs can be nerve-wracking. Many customers only approach you if they have an issue, and one interaction can ruin your day. On top of that, you have your real name on a name tag, in the signature of an email, or on your desk. I worked my first customer-facing job in an office a few years back and had no loyalty to the company besides my paycheck. Prior to this I had built up a reputation as a freelancer using my real name, and I used my real name at this job (Same type of work). We had so many angry customers that I was worried somehow a Karen's Yelp review could be lead back to my body of work that I did freelance that I actually cared about. I've heard that some servers use fake names so they aren't bothered by patrons outside of work. Likewise, I do…
Job listed at $30 per hour TO START but…
Exactly the situation
Underutilized at work
I’m new to a small construction company, other than my boss, I am the only person in the office. When I started, there was a lot of busy work that I needed to do to get the books in order. Two weeks later, I have nothing to do. My boss leaves for hours everyday, and when she is here, she is so busy on the phone I can’t get a word in before it’s time to clock out. I email her asking for more work, no response. In the past two days, I have been in the office for 16 hours and worked MAYBE 30 minutes. I never know when she’s going to come back so I literally just sit at my desk trying to look busy. I wanted a more chill job but it’s driving me crazy, I have a lot of experience and skills and wish I could…
I’m a bit confused on how this works. I could totally be missing something. So, I work as a housekeeper on commission. I make 40% of the payroll for each customer. I was told when I was hired that I would be making $2500 – $3500 a month, but would typically be making $18 – $20 an hour. By that, apparently, they meant “$18 – $20 an hour while cleaning” So if the payroll for the house is $120, 40% is $48. If I get the house done in 2 hours, hey look at that I “made $24 an hour”. Meaning that even though I am required to clock in at 7:30 am, and I am expected to stay as late as 5:30 (but usually am off between 3 – 4 … we’re also asked not to make appointments before 5:30, just in case), I’m not actually being compensated for…
