Employment Law
This past year, I worked for a lender in corporate America. This lender has had mass layoffs throughout the entire year. When I was laid off a few months ago, I was sent a severance package and a separation agreement. The lender labeled the position as “terminated” although it was a mass layoff. This was listed on multiple documents including the legally binding separation agreement. I reached out to HR for clarification and they confirmed it was a layoff once again. I ended up calling the representative and she explained that the verbiage was just used in lieu. It was “normal.” Is this normal? Please note this company was not public with their layoffs for the first few rounds as well. I have been filling out job applications and I have to fill out the reason for leaving my last employer. I list the reason as a “layoff.” If my…
My girlfriend just started a new job in downtown nashville and has been making great money. Today during their pre-shift meeting, the managers told them that they’re gonna start taking 20% of their tips at the end of the night for themselves. This is illegal and I know that, only problem is there’s no way to document it because all they see is the money on their paycheck. There’s no way to take record of the percentage that’s being taken out for the managers to keep. Any solutions would be great!
Is this normal? Shouldn't there be a way for him to get that info whenever he needs it? Is there some kind of law, like the one that says employers can't withhold W-2s? Or is this just a part of bureaucracy that we have to deal with? (We're in Colorado btw) At this point I'm mainly looking to classify this issue from the options: A. Illegal; B. Unethical but not illegal; C. Boyfriend's bosses are remiss for not explaining a better way to do this; D. Someone has told him the right option but he didn't understand; or E. He's lying to me about how hard it is to get this info to get me off his back about it. Context: Boyfriend has been working at an airport restaurant for a few months. The restaurant is owned by Quiznos but it is not a Quiznos. He swears he signed up…
What dafuq is “MADE”?! Most CEOS/Executives DO NOT MAKE much of anything of value. Their subordinates, through a chain of TRICKLE-UP Business Intelligence, suggest the best course(s) of action for any given company. The top idiot at the bottom of the labor pyramid figured out a way to make the company a fortune!! Who do you think will take (and be PAID/”MADE”) the credit (and profit) of bottom-feeder idiot with the Super-Uber-Profitable idea? As WE all know, the actual WORKERS/LABOR produce the goods and services that foster and promote companies' economies — YET, the “Bosses” take the credit, and then spoon-feed the WORKERS/LABOR some… WHAT? Low Wages? Mediocre Benefits? Maybe even a little time-off… UNPAID, but hey what a deal to have time-off. You fucking muppets.

I’m scared to go homeless
I have bipolar and haven’t been able to be stable and keep full time employment. I’m working on it, hard, but my psych and therapist think I should stick to 25ish hours at most. It’s not just a matter of depression or too much energy; I get hallucinations if the episode is bad enough. I broke up with my bf and have to move out. Due to me having two pets, I’ll most likely have to get my own apartment. How are people supposed to survive when they have disabling disorders? It’s very hard to qualify for disability with bipolar; especially since I have no hospitalizations. So that’s not an option. :/
Quit my job with no notice tonight.
Not something I would normally do. I was working management in food service, and I'm just tired of babysitting, constantly carrying multiple positions, all while getting yelled at by Karens and Garys all night because we forgot one of their extra sauces or we're not getting their food out fast enough. There's also always a double standard from upper management. They expect us to make sure everything is running smoothly, while they sit their fat asses in the office or stand around on their phones. I don't get paid enough for that shit. I asked for a raise after a year and it was denied. Found a job with actual benefits, pto, and a decent schedule so I can have some actual time with my wife and kid. Fuck food service. It's a soul sucking industry that never changes no matter where you are.
