No overtime rates for weekend work
As the title says, my employer does not offer any overtime rates for weekend work (technician in the oil and gas industry). In this day and age they must be one a the few that doesn’t incentivise the employees to work extra time. The union is now involved as the workers have had enough. Thoughts?
Just want to do something I like.
I have individual talents, y'know? I've been doing retail for about 15 years with various businesses, repeating the cycle of coming in, doing well, promoting up, and burning out. In all that time, I've developed some abilities that are plenty useful- making displays, building fixtures, driving a forklift, stuff like that. Things that translate into practical skill I can use in other contexts, or at least for other reasons. I hate my job. I hate the hostage situation of “do this, the most lucrative form of the same miserable work, or else you lose your apartment.” I hate putting in 45 hours a week using my body to do all this heavy lifting just for the privilege of eventually laying down for a while. But here's the thing- I like the labor. I like to work with my hands, operate heavy equipment, and make things where you can see and…
Usps monopolizes your time
I’m literally gonna die from sleep deprivation if I don’t find another delivery job soon… it’s so unorganized here & I’m basically being made to work for 8 days straight w/ no break the second week of my work schedule.
Kind of a weird question…
What about unions for office workers? Accountants, IT, etc. is this a thing that should be thought about, or are we (me) lower on the totem pole? I really am just curious. I’m kinda new around here.
It's really starting to piss me off because I have to wait around for half an hour when I do that from 8:30 until 9 anyway because of when my bus gets in. I get breakfast before I come in as well so it seems pointless to me and like it's not actually a break because I've barely even set up fully. Just wondering the legality of forcing people to take a break when they don't want one just to “get the breaks out of the way” I don't get home until around 7 aswell so I just have to go hungry until I get home. The place treats the staff like shit as well and is a complete shithole so I'm thinking I'll just have to find a better job anyway but I need the money so want to make it at least bare-able until I can. I'm in…
I work retail and I’m a full time college student. This year I had stood at the register for going on 6 hours calling for someone to come relieve me to go to the restroom. No one ever came so I said fuck it and walked away from the cash wrap to go to the bathroom. One of the managers proceeded to chase me down saying “NO YOU CANT LEAVE THE REGISTER UNATTENDED” I turned around and screamed back “NO I HAVE TO PEE I CANT HOLD IT IN ANYMORE.” In front of the whole line. Some old ladies were like awwww poor baby and some of them were looking at me like EW. Crazy thing is they had the audacity to run after me to tell me I can’t pee but guess what? When I got back to the register she never took over. It was still empty as…
Unfortunately I have to work with such a person. He is almost always refusing other team member’s architectural proposals (with arguments such as “who does this”). He sounds like a smartass every time he answers a question. In sprint reviews if he has to talk, he always say “I did this/I did that”, when the teamlead himself speaks only with “we did this/we did that” – which in my opinion, speaks volumes. Up until now I have put some distance between myself and him so that it doesn’t affect my work experience negatively. My question is, in your experience, how have you dealt/are dealing with such people, what has worked and what hasn’t? Thank you.
Sick & No Response?
Sent out a group text to my managers that I am ill, suffering from stomach pain, liquid shits [didn't say that exactly, ofc], and my partner has a sore throat. I am supposed to be the only one in the office tomorrow, but said I would be unable to work. Sent this at 5:45pm. I know for a fact every single one of them is on their phone constantly, and have not received a single reply. I had already called in today, so they're well aware that i am ill, and contagious. I will NOT be going in to work tomorrow and they can fire me over it. I don't get health insurance, and need to take precautions because I'm fuckin poor, only get 20hrs a week, and would rather DIE than have to pay the bill for an emergency visit to the hospital. I'm just pissed they don't have…
