Well, to all of us in the US forced in today without there being a need for us to be there, but especially for any and all retail workers who have to deal with Black Friday crowds. I hope your shift ends swiftly and without incident.

work from home state holiday pay?
I work from home and we have to work today but in my state today is a state holiday so should the employer have to honor that and pay us holiday pay since we are working in the state of Maryland?
Make me work on Christmas?
A long time ago, I worked at Blockbuster Video, and for those that don’t know – it was open 356 days a year from 10am – midnight. One year I had to work Christmas morning, and there were people waiting in the parking lot before it even opened. I was cranky about having to work so I had no filter with customers. As I was opening the doors at 10, people lined up to come in. Woman: I’m surprised you’re open on Christmas. Me: Yeah, I guess people have to come get movies so they don’t have to talk to their family. Woman: (surprised) Well, we’re here because we got a game machine for our kids and want to rent games for them. Me: So instead of just ignoring them for 2 hours, you give them games so you can ignore them all day? She was wide-eyes and walked away…
I'm 39 years old, BA, MA, earning 80k dollars, which puts me in the 85th percentile in America in terms of personal earnings…and yet I'm in an incredibly bad situation: -Student debt: 200k -Medical debt (I have a very serious condition due to overworking myself for years, and It's not going anywhere): 250k -rent: 2500 dollars for a one bedroom appartment that's 500 sqft Anyways, you guys know the drill…insurance, 401k, commute…suffice to say that EVEN by being incredibly careful with the way I spend money, things get harder every passing year. So from the outside everything looks ok, but the truth is I'm in a very dire situation. I'm starting to envy the friends I have in Europe who earn a third of what I make, and who themselves envy my “huge income”…if they knew what it was like in America man. My bad, just needed to blow off…

Fuck having to work today
Can’t wait to have a miserable day while customers are “shocked” that the business is open/ that I have to work. Whoever else is stuck working today guess we are all just screwed
TL;DR – I’m not in the habit of telling folks what to do but my advice is don’t become an executive assistant (EA) cause it’s so trash 🙂 I wouldn’t even want my future kids to be part of this field. I’m currently an EA at a tech company and it sucks ass. I’ve been there for over a year and in total, I’ve been an EA for 6 years. If you’re considering an EA “career” (is it really a career if you do the same thing over and over, hold the same title for multiple years, and are stuck in jobs that usually have little to no growth?), you should know the job will be LARGELY dependent on the company and/or executive you work for. What do I mean by this you ask? Your job can either suck or be great because of who you work for. Example: In…
Would I be able to join a union?
Sorry if this question sounds ridiculous or stupid but I really know nothing about unions. For some context , I am in human services. I work for a family who’s son is autistic / idd, highly aggressive. I technically am an employee of a 3rd party company that handles all of our pay stuff. Paychecks , billing, all of that . But I literally have zero contact with the company unless there’s issues, which there are plenty. Last month I passed a test to achieve a certification that leads to a $10 an hour raise. I still have not received said raise. There’s also been multiple times in the past year where I was not paid on time. Screwups on their end lead to me being paid on Monday or Tuesday instead of Friday, so I go 4 or so extra days with no pay. These issues have me thinking…
So I'm leaving my current job for another opportunity. My current job wasn't so bad, but I do have some compliants that I will voice when I hand over my letter. Basically, I'm on team A. This type of team usually does not produce products. Team B produces products. However, team A has been producing products just because we know how. Team B is probably paid about 30k more than us. So there's my complaint. So I'm already going to mention this to all my higher ups so maybe the other members of team A will get a pay raise. The question is, do I include that in the resignation letter? Or do I just keep the letter standard?
