UK cosmetics company's Lush just released a statement to all their North American employees. “Now that the Holiday is over to safeguard the health of business no pay increase at all at this time. To ensure growth, profit, and sales, all staff will receive an email at 6 p.m. with more insight as to how this decision came into place.” This is a company that promotes themselves on being a fair trade, organic, progressive, etc… business that just told all of their staff for the last year they are striving to pay all their employees a living wage. Then they followed this “we can't afford to pay you” statement telling all their staff they increased prices in the stores 3-10% across the board. Imagine a self-proclaimed progressive company actually being another scummy corporation.

The callout policy at my job is that we have to call and speak to a manager at least 2 hours before our shifts start. If the building isn’t open yet we have to call their personal numbers and speak with them. Texts and voicemails are not accepted, and even if you know the night before that you won’t be in and text them then night before it doesn’t count. On Friday I had to spend 6 hours in the ER for internal bleeding that they couldn’t find a clear cause for. The doctor there told me to take it easy for the week and rest a lot because they weren’t entirely sure what caused the bleeding. He gave me a note excusing me from work for a week and then excusing me from strenuous activity for another week after that. I promptly sent it over to my boss and…
Exactly what the title says. I got calls and texts today from my employer asking me why I wasn’t at work. They had texted me last night asking if I’d pick up a shift but I specifically said I was busy this morning, so I couldn’t. She claims I texted her to pick up a shift. She read off the text messages to me and I told her that wasn’t me, that I specifically said I couldn’t come in. This person with my number jubilantly said they had no plans and would come in. Now she’s pissed and wants to count this as a no call no show and doesn’t believe me when I say that she didn’t have that conversation with me. Part of me thinks she put the phone number in wrong, she’s claiming she copied it from the time card system we use. She told me to…
my boss wants me to work during meetings
I am not sure how to approach this, my boss expects me to work, during each meetings I go to. I always said I cant because I cannot do 2 things at once, which I think is reasonable as no one else on the meeting is actively working at the same time. My “no” is never enough, how am I supposed to approach this in a professional way? edit : Im also a non english speaker so even if my english is fluent, it still requires an effort for me to proactively listening.
1099 No Contract Quitting Process
I’m a 1099 (reasonably sure I’ve been wildly misclassified, thanks to this sub) and I got a new job… I have no actual contract, and my job (at a small company) is wildly toxic Do I have to give notice? I feel like since they wanted me 1099 as a way to save money and no contract so they could just bounce me out of they wanted, I don’t need to?
I'm in the restoration field. When I started I was an hourly employee, asked for a raise it was either a 2$ an hour increase or go to commission. I started commission, they gave me a 1300 draw a week. It started at 20% then 2 months later it was changed to 15%. I want to make clear they owe me money and never seen a commission check. I go in today and get a letter of my new pay format. It's hourly with bonuses. It's a pay decrease… can my boss constantly change the way I'm paid? It said 24 an hour with bonuses, I told them it's either 27 an hour with bonuses or how were doing things now or I'm gone and putting my 2 weeks in. Say they don't go through with either option and I put in my 2 weeks.. can I call the department…
Telling my boss what I should and shouldn’t be doing 🤣 her boyfriend won’t stop picking on me either . Idk if I should quit just because of these two bellends bcoz I get on with everyone else mostly but they make it miserable for me to work there . They’re extremely rude to me when I ask questions and she’s like ‘you’ve been here for x months you should know this by now ‘ and at the same time she tells everyone to ask for help if they Are unsure 🤣 she pulls faces whenever I talk , I’ve heard her loudly talk shit about me behind my back , she’s passive Aggressive and she’s always watching my interactions with patients and telling me how I should do things . I don’t mind her correcting me but she does it in a very passive aggressive manner , her boyfriend…
Backstory: I work for a large company and last summer I took a seasonal role. Before taking the role my boss at the time requested four weeks to find a replacement before I moved into the role. The role was the same pay so I wasn't too worried but it was a complete failure where my “transition time” was basically the last three days of that four weeks I ended up training for my new position and training the new person for my old position. The season ended about four weeks ago and I was moved back into my old position. Because of the way the department was funded, there were previously no full time positions and everything was seasonal. Now, four weeks later, I am moving back into the department for a pay bump and my boss once again wants four weeks (the amount of time I've been in…
