Month: February 2023
I’ll start. For me it’s the boss who swears up and down the place “simply can’t function” without them, even though they’ll spend their day in their office where you can see them cruising YouTube or TikTok…all while the place runs just fine when they aren’t there.
For context, I work in a recruiting agency. We have quotas of filling candidates daily, as well as margin monthly. We do coaching (basically like a rundown of how I did) every 2 weeks for the past 2 years. I've had ups and downs but every time, my manager would always ask me what my action plan is about my stats. Now company policy is, if I had failed the last 2 months meeting the goal, I get endorsed to PIP (performance improvement plan). I don't understand. We've been doing the same thing since I started the last 2 years. If my strategies are not working anymore, isn't it her time to step in and tell me what to do? Or tell me what to try? Talking to her or showing the numbers why they don't work is pointless because SOME can meet the goal. “If they can do it,…
How my boss communicates
“Optional” Weekend Overtime
My job held an Impromptu meeting with our small team (eight people) of customer service reps. They announced the company is requesting at least three people “volunteer” for overtime on Saturday to try and get through a backlog of work. They didn't say how many weekends they'd be doing this. It was prefaced that it's not mandatory, but also asked that those who don't volunteer say why they are unable. Am I wrong in thinking they have no right to that info? Why I can't do overtime is not the companies business, and guarantee they will guilt trip anyone who doesn't do the overtime, using it against us performance reviews. I've been told I shouldn't complain as it's extra money, but also that it's BS and not to volunteer. What do you all think?
I started doing bike delivery after school until I figure out what to do next & to earn some money on the side. I love what I do and I love my coworkers, but everything else regarding management, HQ etc etc is mediocre at best. I've been there for 1 1/2 years now and therefore one of the oldest on the team. Since this job was only temporary for me from the beginning (as well as it is for everyone else on the team), I went to apply for an internship. I knew it was gonna be in march & it was 3 weeks, but didn't know when exactly or which days of the week. I told my manager about this about 5 weeks beforehand (end of jan/beg of feb) and that I couldn't yet put in a PTO since I didn't know the specific dates yet. Last week I…
I’m quitting my high paying job
For context, this is the highest paid job I've worked. I quit my last of ten years to work for another company. I had a string of issues at my last. That aside, my thought was I'd be in a better place with my most current. I had worked with my current supervisor at my last job before and understood how difficult she is. I've been working this job for two months and have had enough. I was constantly being yelled at and lectured for not learning fast enough and retaining the information. It takes me a few times to understand what I'm supposed to do and retain the information, especially when it's something new to me. Something brand new happened yesterday (2.22). I did as instructed per email. I get a phone call a little bit later. The tone of my supervisor's voice suggested she was red face screaming…
with great power comes no accountability
A company I liked made me a job offer, which I accepted. However, they wanted me to sign a non-compete agreement banning me from working with similar companies and ALL their clients in the future. Their legal counsel said they signed the same deal with their clients by prohibiting them from hiring their existing or former employees. They had hundreds of reputable companies in their portfolio. I even sent my resume to some of them before getting the offer. Now imagine that thousands of talented individuals with a ton of experience are limited to helping other businesses succeed, creating a cure, revolutionary technology, you name it. They might not like the company or want to move on to another company , but those agreements limit their options.
