is it good to let know my employer that I’m going to a job interview?

someone is getting a promotion instead of me, and the company has many flaws like bad software/internet, lack of uniforms and they told me I wasn't going to get life insurance because I didn't sign with their healthcare company. They have hired like 4 immigrant guys who are in an asylum process but have not the right to work yet Edit: if not, then what's a good lie to tell if you won't be able to proof you did otherwise

Broke and dislocated my Toe; then told to work.

Last Saturday at 11pm I was walking in my living room when my foot smacked the bottom of my chair and I fractured one of my toes and dislocated it. I got to the er and was out by 2:30am on Sunday. I went to work Monday morning and did my usual normal routine between from 8 till 9 am. By then, my supervisor saw me limping and told me that I can go home. I didn't say anything as I was afraid of losing my job. This was the second week of my new job and I didn't want to take the chance of getting fired. I was relieved when she said that I can go home. She told me that they are going to need me on Tuesday so to come in the next day. I said ok and came in this morning. Well I've been walking around…

got a taste of corporate and it cost me my job

(throwaway account) hi antiwork peeps, never thought i would be in a position like this but such is life last week i was fired from my job… my first job working for a very large company with many (too many) managers everything seemed normal, i was in training with a group of people. after training, i was on the floor -i was the closest one to sit next to my team manager. it did not take long before i was given rules that my newly hired coworkers weren’t given. this all kinda snowballed from there.. to the point where i was being pulled aside out of no where and told to hit certain margins (but nothing was written down / no methods of achieving these goals were provided) then i was pulled aside again and essentially told that i am slow and that i need to step it up -…

I was asked why am I working, by fellow female employees.

Just transferred to a new job full time, mostly a man’s type job. Haven’t had any issues with the men, but the fellow aged women (50+) ask me today asked why am I working. My husband has been working for 28years in a government job & one of the women knows him & told the other female who my husband is & how much he makes. They flat out ask why are you working and you can go back to your previous job if you want. I’m pulling my weight, but I feel like I’m imitating them. I’m doing the same job as them but still learning. I returned to work because after my husband retires we will lose our medical insurance. We have 2 adult children still on our medical insurance plan and I take a VERY EXPENSIVE MEDICATION and we can’t afford to lose our medical insurance. I…

I’m done giving 2 weeks.

This just happened to my wife: She worked at a company for 7 years. She found another job, which is more accommodating to her needs and decided to take it. She likes the people she works with now, so she told the new company she would start in 2 weeks in order to give her current company the professional 2 week notice, not to leave them high and dry. Well, she got an email that day saying her resignation was accepted immediately, so she is no longer with the company. Now we're stuck missing 2 weeks pay and I currently have no health insurance. So much for doing the right thing.

Found out how much my boss charges for the work I do & feel angry and deflated

Just a quick rant I guess. I work part time doing social media posts for small businesses. I do it for a franchise owner of a small business – it’s all assistant stuff, I have a couple of colleagues who do admin, bookkeeping, etc. but I’m the social media one. I don’t tend to manage the accounts, just write content and go kind of thing. From what I know, my boss finds the clients, they negotiate, and then she assigns one of us the job. E.G., SME asks for diary management, colleague 1 deals with it. SME asks for an infographic to go in their email newsletter, I do it, etc. I get paid £10 an hour, going up to £11 an hour in a few weeks. I get just under £500 a month. It’s not set hours, as long as I get it done before the deadline it doesn’t…

Company playing song every 2 hours to remind employees to “stretch”

I work at a grocery store in California that is considered one of the best employers you can work for in the area. On the “top 100” list and everything. Still, we are infantilized. Some idiot in corporate decided that their project of the year would be introducing a “stretch reminder.” This means a song in our store plays every two hours. Every. Two. Hours. From before the store opens at 4am all the way until our night crew comes at 11pm. And what is the song? The goddamn song we have to hear every single day multiple times a day? Uptown Funk. Morale is down, tension is up, and I can’t listen to another goddamn word of this song. Soon, I think we will all stretch during the entire song to retaliate.

Jesus I can’t believe how they fuck your over in America.

As the title says really, I saw a post like this recently where someone from mainland Europe said he couldn’t believe how you were treated in the States. I’m from the UK and we have lots of protections written into law about howemployees can and cannot be treated. I’m disgusted about how American employers can get away with the shit that they do (even the high profile ones like Twitter). These are things that just wouldn’t happen in the UK. Being fired in the UK can be a long and drawn out process but in America it seems to be done almost on a whim. Keep fighting for your rights and (as we say in the UK) don’t let the bastards grind you down.
