If you know, you know
Month: April 2023
My boyfriend (24M) and I (23F) broke up with each other just a few hours ago. The reason is, he has to move out of province to actually be able to find a job that he can make a living with because the cost of living in Vancouver BC is a fucking joke and the level of competition employers have set for jobs is fucking ridiculous. we both can’t do long distance either. I’m so upset, my relationship was the only thing that made it easy for me go through the challenges of life and Capitalism took it away from me. This shit is destroying every aspect of my life. When you can’t even have access to safe housing and a stable income to make a living out of it. How can he thrive in a relationship? You can’t even get your basic needs met. I’m very upset about this.
This is more or less a vent post, but here goes. I'm an uni student, Eastern Europe, currently writing master's and preparing for a doctorate. Our uni sent us a job recruitment mail – not affiliated with uni, but they sent it anyway. Game localization job, requires at least 3 fluent languages, decided to apply just to see if I would get in with my CV. Apparently I did. The company sent a mail inviting me to an interview and language test (estimated at about 2,5h duration) THREE HOURS BEFORE IT STARTED, made it a point to arrive precisely on time or I would not be let in on the video call. I tried to join the call the minute it was scheduled to, but the host was not present. I waited for half an hour before giving up. After that did some digging and apparently the job would pay…
Ways to use time at work?
Started a new office job that ended up being longer hours than anticipated, only problem is that i'm great at what I do so I get it done quicker than anticipated. Also slightly resentful of their shitty practices regarding pay and time off not being entirely legal. I could ask for more work but I'd rather have some leeway in case I need it and get other stuff done to make up the extra unpaid hours. What things have y'all found that can be done discreetly at a desk? There are people around that can see my screen so no recognisable things on the screen or spending too long on phone (so no watching videos or online shopping probably). So far I've figured I can do banking/taxes or write a novel.
I worked in a toxic environment where my lead consistently abused everyone, but my boss (VP of a hospital) and the C-Suite love her. Anyway, after I put in a THREE weeks notice, my lead was SO ANGRY because some people were talking about why so many people left since my lead started. I was the longest lasting employee under her (10 months). On the Friday of the week first week of my notice, I was scheduled to get my wisdom teeth removed. This has been scheduled 3 months before and my boss and lead were VERY MUCH aware of it. On Wednesday, I packed SOME of my items because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to carry too much after my teeth removal. Right before anesthesia on Friday, HR called me and asked if I was coming back since I packed ALL MY STUFF. I was so confused…
Short staffed again oh no
How I Left My Previous Employer
So I'm an emt. I'm constantly moving from one company to the next looking for greener grass. My previous company was one of the largest ems companies in the USA and there was a sign on bonus of 5k for a 1 year contract and if i broke this contract i would be obligated to pay it back or they could sue me. Generally they would take your last paycheck as payback. I was promised as much overtime as possible and I was also promised 24 hour shifts. I worked there from about January of 2022 till about December of 2023. Not only did they lie about the Unlimited overtime, they also started to cut my shifts to the point where I wasn't even making 40 hours a week. While this company paid the most per hour compared to any other company in my city, US ems personnel generally can't…
I work as a server and for the entire time I’ve worked there they keep at least 2 servers until closing time — it’s a busy chain restaurant. I’m also notoriously a great “schmooze” and squeeze out unusually large tips from tables that have expendable income to tip with. Tonight was the first time I’ve ever seen the manager phase out all but 1 person around 40min before closing, and that person was me. Minutes later a 7 top walks in. I’m about to start them while finishing 2 other small tables, then a couple 2 tops arrive, and finally a huge 9 top at about 30min before closing. I literally can’t physically handle this and I’m visibly panicking a bit, so a server who was about to go home came back and helped do the small tables. Before I could finish the 7 tops drink orders, the 9 top…
