Hi Anti-Work, I’m not sure what to do right now. I (F24) currently work at a small boutique-y business (pays $17/hr) that opened in Summer 2021. I have been employed there since the day it opened. I don’t think I have ever called out (with a single exception of getting covid last summer). I am by far the most responsible employee (in terms of upkeep of the store, and other duties). I do occasionally struggle with timeliness but I’ve never been more than 10 minutes late. At the time of opening the staff consisted of the owner, myself, another girl that was in college, and a high school student (I’ll call her Amy). Shifts were split pretty evenly between myself and the other college girl, with Amy occasionally working a the same time or after school hours. There was a pretty great balance between us regarding shift covering – which…
Month: April 2023
This might be long, but I'll try my best to explain it. I work at Job A. Back in January, I had been offered a new position for Job B. At Job A, I submitted a notice, but said that I would stay on since this was during a time we were short managers, and I would help with closing manager duties after I got off from Job B. My hours at Job A would be cut essentially. So for a couple of months, I was working both jobs past the “last day”, and was using up my PTO/sick pay. During this time, I was still listed as full time, manager, all benefits, but my hours at Job A were cut. After awhile, I left Job B and went back to full time hours at Job A. I still had PTO/sick that wasn't used. Cut to a few days ago,…
Long story short, I was hired by a “tech” company a couple months ago. The huge reason I took the offer was because it was fully remote, salaried, unlimited PTO and the perks go on and on. I knew accepting the offer that we were going to be acquired by a much larger company, but we were assured that nothing will change besides, maybe some titles and gain some extra perks. I’m currently working on my degree, so to me, getting this job without a degree (I do have experience) is a dream. Before I was commuting so much 5 days a week and made significantly less in a company that was just toxic and very corporate. So I’ve been very excited. Couple days ago we were told that because our job duties are similar to one of the other roles within the company we are merging into, that our…

Struck by shift leader; Seeking advice
I’ve been debating on whether or not I would post about this and where; If it isn’t appropriate for this sub and is removed I understand but I’ve seen posts about general workplace misjustice before. Using a throwaway. I can provide further details if needed but am intentionally keeping certain things scarce in the event of one of my co-workers lurking here. Recently me and my shift leader got into a heated exchange; This escalated into him threatening to hit me. I said do it and, well, he did it. In the immediate aftermath I was more shocked than anything. I did not hit or even swing back because I knew that likely would have been my job. I regret not just immediately going to HR or my immediate supervisor when he threatened me and honestly that behavior is so unlike me I’m really not sure what got into me.…
Such A Shocking Move.
Well, thank you.
So my boss offered me a promotion 5 months ago, without me asking or ever discussing it. I only worked part time because it was more convenient after having a baby and we were making more money, because we didn’t have to pay for childcare but still had two salaries. I accepted, I even agreed to take a year long courses for a diploma. Two months before the promotion my boss informed me that someone else from the team wanted this position so they will have to try both of us. Okay, I have more qualifications than that person so I thought I still had a chance. Then, a month before said promotion my boss asked me to find childcare because they will need me to work in said position middle of April. I did, they then told me to start working full time in my current position in order…
