I gave my formal resignation last week because I got a new job. Zero response for over a week and then was told “ I acknowledge receipt of your message and you are training new hire next shift”. I already traded that shift to another coworker and made other plans. Supervisor calls me saying I have to show up because I didn’t get approval and it wouldn’t have been approved anyway. I apologized if I didn’t follow protocol but I found coverage and I will not be there. Supervisor says it’s a safety hazard for someone to work an extra shift. In reality company is just against paying overtime. The call started very aggressive about it’s a privilege to be able to work and I have a responsibility. Threatened with a no call/ no show and write up if I don’t show up. I started to laugh because I remind…
Month: July 2023
So I left a job over a year ago. Was super toxic. When I first got hired they hired two other people who literally left after a day so it just happened to be me and my manager who also happened to be his first time being a manager and boy did he suck at it. Anyway I dealt with so much bullshit at that place. Both managers used to gaslight me about anything to the point I started recording interactions and phone calls with them. So I find another job who was paying 25 an hour and wanted me to start immediately so I gave my shifts to other workers. Well the worker forgot to cover my shift and I got yelled at for it and fired. I honestly could of probably fought it considering I did have the texts as proof but being they were treating me so…
Just wow. I never thought it could happen at my company because we’re so small and have a great group, but wow HR sure doesn’t care about screwing over their employees. I’m a manager who recently had to provide an annual performance review for one of the employees – her first one. It went really well and everyone was happy. The employee asked about a raise and I said, while that decision is made by HR, I can tell you it’s typically between 3-5% depending on your performance. The employee understood. Keep in mind, this employee received a 5% increase after her first 90 days because she was doing such a great job which is unheard of at my company, but they really appreciated all she has done. Well, when I went to discuss the merit increase with HR they were definitely lowballing the number because of that 5% increase…
One of the benefits of working at my corporate education job was that we got to work half days on summers when ISDs don’t need direct assistance. After Covid, we were allowed work remote Fridays during the summer (yay) but had to work the full day because apparently remote work = not really working? I would rather work the half day in the office. Now we don’t get to work remote this Friday because we had Monday off (a forced non work day)? Like, if you don’t trust your employees to work remote, why are they even employed?
Going old school
Noticed at work people do not read emails. Thinking about going old school and sending all emails as paper memos. Thoughts?
Need opinions on unions.
I’m currently trying to organize a union for my workplace (a movie theater). I did my research, have gotten enough positive feedback from my team, and am planning on calling our region’s labor board office tomorrow. What I want to know is your thoughts/advice on how to go about this. I live in an at-will employment state for reference. I talked to my republican parents about this, and they kind of freaked out on me. Now I’m feeling nervous about it all when I was feeling so hopeful. Please give me your honest opinions on whether I should go through with this and things I should know that research can’t tell me.
Someone please explain
My company/site has had a rounds of layoffs, handed out shit raises saying it was a bad year (some people got cents raises), and been monitoring spending like a hawk. I think most of the layoffs were from hiring so much durning Covid but even so a lot of departments are down to 1 person and people are leaving left and right. Yet still no sign of layoffs stopping or the money situation getting resolved. And yet they just announced they just bought another company… just doesn’t make sense to me how they can layoff people and say budget is tight, but buy a whole company.
Taxed on ****ING everything. Including wages. The more you work and earn the more the government and the single mums and druggies get. paying for the NHS which I've barely used. Full time 8.5 hour days doing the same **** day in day out. Now no matter how interesting and appealing they try and make a job sound they're paying you because it's usually neither. Everything gets boring if you do it enough so why must work be any different? if I play a computer game for 40 hours a week I'll eventually get bored of it. Not only that but the hours of work advertised are always complete s***. What ever happened to 9-5. Now it's 6-2, 2-10 or 9-5:30 because they're tight af with the breaks. Oh nooooo I have the audacity to have to have a half hour break between doing some mundane s*** for 8 hours…
Fired with zero notice
I just got fired after being hired 2 months ago because apparently it seemed like I wasn’t enjoying the job which I absolutely was and apparently I have an attitude problem. I was on my 90 day probation period but I had gotten a review two weeks ago which was glowing. Nothing negative, nothing to indicate that there was any problems. Last week Thursday was told an hour before the end of work that a toilet wasn’t flushing I worked as a public works employee hired as building maintenance but was moved to streets till I got the hang of things and after my review was told that I was to work as building maintenance and helping the streets dept. which is wildly understaffed so I get to the admin office and inquired which toilet wasn’t flushing and fixed and I was then told that everyone knew that it wasn’t…
