I’m a manager at a company. I have chronic pain, migraines, anxiety attacks, etc. I work through all of it. The job benefits? Trash. No PTO, no vacation days, no sick days, no 401K, no overtime pay, and holiday pay is a “privilege” that corporate decides. I’ve searched for a job with better benefits, similar work, flexible hours, and better pay. No luck so far. I had a coworker I’ll call Melody. Melody started a few years after me but we were promoted near the same time. While I worked 45 to 50 hr weeks, she worked maybe 20 to 25. I didn’t have an issue with that. When Melody quit, she requested an exit interview and bashed me. Saying that she didn’t like working with me because I didn’t do any work and I took too long to do tasks when I did work. When upper level management questioned…
Month: July 2023
I worked for this large electronics retailer for over 14 years. I started as a part timer and bounced around until I found my way into the back end side of the company: warehouse. I was a rare commodity for this retailer, I'm self motivated and I work hard because I feel it reflects on me. I don't need any supervision, just tell me what needs to be done and I will do my best. I did, basically, the same job the whole time and became a master of my craft. Eventually a coworker joined me on the other side of the warehouse and became one of my best friends. Between the two of us we kept things going: paperwork, training, product flow, store set up, etc. To keep a very long back story shorter, the store became very dependent on us, more than we realized. I decided I wanted…
Terminated over nothing
I just got terminated from amazon for negative time off even though it wasnt time i took off but was wrongfully taken from my account due to a time clock issue I was telling them about this for a entire month after. Not to mention that i was working my butt off and doing well and they still talked to me about my rate being 25 below expectation absolutely sent me into a depressive episode because why was i working so hard for them to look at me as a number, the person who talked to me about my rate literally never goes to where i work to actually see how efficent i am all just numbers. Im not a machine or a robot some days your body just doesnt move as fast as others some days you are a little more sore. About an hour after they talked to…
I work at a increasingly busy starbucks now that we have a drive thru, and as of this week they are cutting hours because “labor costs”, but the flow of people stays the same. My shift got cut two entire hours yesterday as soon as I arrived, instead of leaving at 12, I was cut at 9:45 but we were busy at that time so I didn't end up leaving until a little after 10. My manager asks me today in the middle of a short rush, “what time were you done yesterday?” And I replied “uh I think around 9:50?” As that's when I was off drive thru but not the time I spent restocking and resetting my station., Only for him to scurry back to his computer to I assume change the work logs. It wasn't until after I saw him walk away did I realize what I…
Canadian here. 20-30 years ago, it wasn’t common for the average family to have two cars (family car and sports/muscle car) a 2,500 sqft or larger single family house, a cabin near the lakes, boats, quads, annual vacations, and retiring at 65 with a fantastic government + job pension in Florida. I’m not talking about people with multiple degrees who work 12 hours a day/ 6 days a week, I’m talking about regular blue collar working class folks. Now millennials and gen Z think that that life style is for only upper middle class or even rich people. People are happy to be paying $2,000 for a 1 bedroom 700 sqft apartment here, because now new rentals go for $3,000. People are getting used to driving tiny cars or taking the bus. People are fine with “staycations”. People expect to work until their 80s. Most young people have given up…
I was recently offered a job and had to do a pass background check to officially be given the job. This is not a problem, I’ve done many background checks in the past, I am not hiding anything. Yesterday, I received a copy of the background check and several flags came up. First, according to the background check, I did not graduate. However, I did graduate a couple months ago. Second, I mistakenly put that I worked at a previous employer for a few years longer than it actually was. The report came back that I stated I was there from 2019-2022. However I was not there that long. During 2022 I was working at my school while I was working on my degree. This job I had during 2022 checks out fine. Another flag I noticed on the background check is that none of the supervisors I used as…
Hours worked- travelling
Hi all, i don’t really no where else to post this. From november 2020 to august 2022 i was working for a landscape gardener in my local town, I needed the job so put up with more than i should have, i was paid £7 an hour or so. For all of those 2 years i was only ever paid for the time i was physically doing work, not travelling inbetween gardens to mow or building a fence etc. My boss was a complete narcissist and it made me feel like i couldn’t physically leave the job leading me to revert back down the black hole that is depression and i tried to OD. My boss didn’t believe me but after my parents found out i insisted i wanted to leave the job but they didn’t know the truth about how bad my boss really was. I ended up saying…
I guess this is the opposite of antiwork?
Being on call is horrible sometimes.
I work for a hydraulic hose/parts company. We take turns being on call for a few select customers. If called in (randomly, could be 3AM) we are given 2 hours OT. That’s for going to shop, helping customer with parts and going home. Also get 130 bucks to have the on call for the week/weekend. Yeah it’s almost not worth it. This customer told me yesterday, he’d need me today sometime. Probably around 11. At 11:30 he texted telling me it’s delayed but still today at some point. So now I can’t do anything at all with my day, waiting for the phone to ring, and will only get paid 2 hrs OT. When applying for a job that has call-outs, make sure it’s worth your time guys.
