i had surgery scheduled for 4/20, and i was a manager at a vape store that i absolutely loved. i have asd and ADHD, which impacts my time perception among other things. i was employed for 9ish months, and came in late 3 times. the first time i was given a write up, but nothing for the subsequent times. my employer knew about my disabilities, but never even discussed accomodations with me. when i was there, i worked HARD because i had a lot of pride in that store, and they knew that. despite that, i was never asked what was causing the random lateness, they never offered to work w me or anything. they knew well in advance i had surgery on 4/20, and on 4/16 i was fired on the spot, mid shift. no write ups, no nothing. i was devastated and heart broken. since surgery, ive been…

So I’m going to try and keep who I work for hidden for now but long story short it’s retail. We sell a variety of stuff but it’s not a big store either, we carry frozen foods, dairy, cool drinks including alcoholic beverages. I’m in charge of this particular location and the occasional coolers going down isn’t unheard of especially during the hot months. One went down recently that holds beer, doesn’t really hurt anything since they’re not super perishable. We had a maintenance man come out and look at it and he told me that the compressor burnt out because it was sharing the same outlet as another cooler putting both of them on the same breaker not rated for that much power draw. These coolers in particular were installed about 3 or 4 years ago. I’ve been here 6 but I was unaware of any shady electrical issues.…

I work at a motorcycle dealer / shop and I accidentally dropped a bike and cause $500 of damage. They tried to make me pay for the damage but I didn’t and never will. Is it legal for them to take money off my pay or make me pay for the damage? Also trying to save the bike I fucked up my back pretty good. Also that 500 $ is half my pay cheque 🤣

Two guys walking down my street; one is going off about some girl “she’s nice…. She just doesn’t smile” My ears perk up “HAVENT you noticed the service industry has really gone down since Covid?! Bartenders, waitresses (not waiters.. but that’s another sub).. they don’t smile anymore” They were out of earshot but man I wanted to shout “you’d be prettier if YOU smiled asshole” Just THINK for one second, dude. People in general have had serious mood shifts since Covid, and always have treated service workers like a different caste, and now they’re working skeleton crews and all that, struggling… But no, she doesn’t smile anymore for you, 🙁 sad sad sad. I need service, not a smile. The guys friend didn’t seem to want to engage.

This tire shop basically has 3 tiers of workers: Lube tech: do oil changes & tires, other basic stuff Alignment tech: all previous + alignments Mechanic: all previous + brake and suspension work I was hired 7 months ago as a basic lube tech, and for the first 2 months I was just doing oil changes and tires. We had 3 alignment techs at the time. Within the first 2 months, 2 of them were transferred to other stores, leaving only 1 left. One day, she was busy doing some not-alignment thing, and everyone was rushing her because a customer was in queue for an alignment and getting impatient (as customers do). The owner of my company has a policy of making sure the grass isn't greener on the other side by making it as green as possible here. (Those are his words) He pays them the most in our industry, refuses to fire anyone unless he absolutely has to, and provides all sorts of benefits and perks to the employees. As a result, our company is doing very well. We made $12 Million in revenue last year, and just recently broke $12M for this year already. This may no belong here, I really need to vent. I work at a nursing home. It is hard work My husband teaches, it's crazy. I listen everyday to coworkers who go on vacations, sometimes more than one a year. (I work in physical therapy). I just get so tired of listening to it. I'm glad for my coworkers. I am glad that they get good things in life they deserve it. I just wonder when mine will come along. I'm always hit with someday, someday. I know that some of my coworkers are probably in debt up to their eyeballs too but I have a lot of debt myself. Doesn't make me feel better. I once had a coworker suggest that I take out a credit card and use the entire thing for a trip to Europe. He said if you wait to save up you will never go.…

Why is it that hardly anybody names the shitty company they are working for? It would give the rest of the denizens of this group a heads up about what companies to look out for.

I'm super frustrated I had to leave my job because I'm pregnant. I worked at a grooming salon and all the smells were making me extremely sick. I asked to work on the floor or part time and they refused. I've been jobless since 6/10 and I'm barely scrapping by. Im so frustrated no one wants to hire me but they tell me I'm doing great during my interviews. I just want to give up and cry
