I human being works at a very bad retail bargain outlet. They have about 600 stores across the USA. I can’t imagine the other 599 stores if this store gets away with this stuff. The store is not small but big, so there isn’t much room to put anything, I have been working here for over a year now. The store is littered with freight in pallets in the entire back of the store. The entire back warehouse is completely packed. You can’t even walk out of the emergency exits. A few months ago we had a good staffing stuff started going well, but then everyone quit me being young. I really don’t care I work here part time and just get hours for college stuff. But our previous manager hired a young lady. This young lady had a managing experience. When this young lady was hired she asked to…

HR questions paid family leave
Last year my husband and I had our first child. His employer offers 4 weeks paid leave and then the state leave policy kicks in and he could take up to 12 weeks with partial pay. He opted to take the whole 12 weeks. A few months after he returned back to work his boss was leaving the company, and in his meeting told my husband the HR representative had gone to my husband’s boss and questioned my husbands work ethic since he decided to take the full leave offered. I am livid. What would you do in this situation?
I am a computer programmer, and got this current job 4 months ago through the recommendation of my girlfriend's father. We live in different countries and I plan to move to hers, but I need a work visa or marry her (which now I feel it is too soon, since we are 24M and 26F). This job provides the work visa, so I accepted it. Note: I did not move yet because bureaucracy takes a loooong time. During these 4 months, the job has been awful. There was literally not even one day I did not complain about. My Senior had no idea what he was doing. To give a bit of context (might get a bit techincal, so you can skip it), he was hired to be a Senior computer programmer/ developer through a recommendation of his friend that works in this company. Apparently he thought that he could…
Left out for a in-person team meeting
I would like to share a matter that's been weighing on me. I just came to know that all my team members including leadership traveling to a in-person team meeting. I am not invited and no communication at all from leadership. Being the only colored person on the team and never got negative feedback in recent times. Performance reviews are always exceeding or above expectations. Not sure how to react or how to take it. Should I schedule a in-person meeting with manager and ask about it?
Hey everyone. So to preface, this story is a little bit old, around two years ago this happened to me. I was in a relatively weird mental time of my life back then so I sort of just had my emotional response to the situation, blamed myself and moved on. This also took place in the UK. I was studying at University during the pandemic. I fell for the on-campus accommodation scam and was essentially running incredibly low on money due to how much it cost me to live there. It essentially got to a point where I ended up running out of student loan entirely and was lacking any food. I was trying my best to find a job to start earning cash to not have to rely on that super small loan I was getting and to feel a bit of independence. I ended up getting invited to…
My husband has been having an extremely rough go at finding work since March. Jobs are either not offering liveable wages or during multiple interviews of his now, he's been told “we're not actually hiring, we're just trying to get people lined up for when a spot opens”. So when a friend of mine let us know about the lawncare company her friend started the beginning of the year and that her friend wanted to hire him on, we were thrilled. The work was great, the pay was great, they were talking about adding health insurance into the company. Everything seemed to be taking off exceptionally well. We even attended a party at the bosses house less than 2 weeks ago to celebrate the success of how quickly the company was taking off with clientele. This was until 10pm last night. I recieved a call from my friend, whom sounded…
Internship hell
So, I started an unpaid internship to get my degree as 3Dd Generalist person. It was a startup focused on luxury furniture, and I was supposed to do both coding (I studied Computer science) and 3D. It was an internship of 4 months, completely unpaid, where together with the two other trainee I had to create models for the clients and work on a virtual Showroom. The designer who was training us didn't know a thing about 3D. He mad mistakes a newbie makes, which is why I and the others had to completely make from scratch all the models he did wrong during these 2 years. We had 3 months to make a hundreds of 3D models again. But we endured it, because the boss promised us to hire all 3 of us after the internship. And I was so happy because boss man was saying I wass making…
How to ask for a bonus/raise
Hello, My friends have told me I definitely should be asking for a raise or a bonus and I am clueless about how or if it would be a good idea. At the very least, I don’t want it to have a negative outcome. I am a summer intern, only here for another month. However, when I was hired it was for an infinitely easier job. I took the new job when offered because I was bored of the easier one, but there was no raise given. My responsibilities are definitely higher now. A lot more can go wrong if I don’t do my job. On top of this, for the last two weeks, my boss has been on vacation. I am now essentially doing their job AND mine. People are reaching out with every issue because my boss is gone. My boss and their supervisor would certainly agree my…
I’m a software engineer working in FAANG, I constantly get emails approaching me to apply to some positions in other companies. Sometimes these offers are tempting and seem interesting but when I talk to the recruiters they talk to me incredibly entitled and I even feel myself like I have to beg for the position and it doesn’t feel good. The work of these people is to hire the right candidate with the correct amount of skills, their success depend on finding someone good, is not about feeling empowered to talk down other people like if they have the power to change your life and you need to earn it. There is some truth in it but I personally think these people have a bit of power in their hands and it goes to their heads too fast. More than once, after the first interview when they ask me for…
It's not a job I'll have forever, but it's nice to be among people I like and who care about me. Just wanted to give some positivity to a community I enjoy. Take care, look out for number one, and find your people. Love
