I work as an aircraft maintenance technician. I work the swing shift and the end of my shifts around 2:30AM. usually, when I am done with my work I will sometimes ask other mechanics on the overnight shift if they need help and they usually don't. So this leaves me around 4-5 hours until the end of my shift to chill or do nothing. Usually, it's an unwritten rule that once you are done with your work you can relax.
This one person just got promoted to supervisor and he is known for being a micromanager. I recently got written up by him because once I was done with my work I was talking with a buddy from another airline and I was near the office. He was mad that I had “disappeared” for two hours and that he needed me. However, I reminded him that when he texted me where I was or what I was doing, I told him that I was near the office and I can come back right away if he needs me or wants me to work on something but didn't say anything. So I took it as if we were on the same page. However, when I walk back into the office he tries to give me grief. Overall, he was upset that IM the one who was supposed to go to him and ask what I can do instead of him telling me when he needs me. (so he was upset that I didn't go up to him and ask him for more work lol)
After the write-up, I immediately started looking for another job but it will be a while before I get accepted to another position because this is the highest-paid position I had so far and the job market is pretty wonky. There are other supervisors that are chill, it just this person recently just got promoted to supervisor so he is just a hard-ass and a pain to work with when he is on duty. How can I retaliate or maliciously comply with his complaint without it backfiring on me?
