Didn’t get hired because I was friends with one of their employees, owner instead hired her worthless niece

This happened years ago but I felt like sharing it. A friend of mine told me his Tuesday Morning was hiring so I applied. Got into the interview with the owner/GM and it was going really well. It was the first job interview that genuinely felt like a natural conversation. She said something like “I think you’ll get along great with the staff here” and I was like “Oh yeah, matter of fact I’m already friends with Matt” and she went cold. “I don’t know if I’m comfortable with friends working here.” I told her that he and I worked together at a restaurant before and we kept it professional at work, didn’t goof around AND our manager from that job, who is one of my references, can confirm that. My friend let me know that she ended hiring her own niece who just sits in the back on her phone while Matt does all the work.

Employees being friends is too risky but yeah, you can probably trust family to do the job. Lovely.
