Cut Shift Stress

I work in a part-time, hourly position, at a business and I want to know if this policy is allowed… They have “cut shifts” where you may or may not have to come in. For example. Employee A is scheduled 4-9:30, B is scheduled 4:30-9:30. B must be ready to come in at 4:30, but may get a call at 4:25 (or no call at all) and be told not to come depending on how busy the business is. They may also have to come in at 4:30, but told to leave early. This is an issue for me as someone who lives out of town because by the time they call, I’m almost there. It is so frustrating to be dressed and ready to turn right back around. Im taking the time to get into dress code, drive there, and show up only to be told to go home.…

This is an issue for me as someone who lives out of town because by the time they call, I’m almost there. It is so frustrating to be dressed and ready to turn right back around. Im taking the time to get into dress code, drive there, and show up only to be told to go home. Also, it keeps me from making any plans when I’m scheduled for the cut shift. I don’t make plans and then I’ll end up being free.

Im not the only employee who has an issue- everyone hates it.

Before you suggest talking to my manager, I have and I was told it was company policy.

Have any of you experienced something similar?
