My last job didn’t inform me that I was fired until I called a week after my last scheduled shift. Is this legal?

I was hired as a seasonal employee in November, which I know usually means you can get let go come January. I was weary of things and periodically asked my managers whether there was any word on whether I’d be kept part time or if I’d be fired. As January came closer a few of my coworkers were told they were being kept. While I still hasn’t learned anything, and pretty much was sent on a goose chase of “they should know ask him, that’s this guys jobs ask them, ect.” Until I found that i was not scheduled anymore on the time sheet past a certain date. I kept asking if that means I’m fired and they would not tell me. Until a week passes and hearing nothing, I called my manager and she was like “uhhhhh wait a second” and 5 minutes later I get a call with…

Is it illegal to not formally tell an employee they were fired?? Even after asking many times?!

There was a lot of other bullshit and mistreatment that happened at this place that I can’t even begin to get into.
