This goes all the way back to the winter holidays for me. I had to work all but one of the post/pre holiday dates while my coworkers and boss were off (day after Christmas, day after Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve) you get the idea. Over the last 7 months my coworkers, and boss, have been off work and out early/in late countless times for numerous reasons. I literally have lost count. I feel like I have been at work by myself either all day, or part of the days, more often than I have had someone here to help. Whatever. I like working alone. So that’s not really the issue.
I finally take a vacation. I was overdue for one. I took 5 work days off. I get back today thinking I would have at least one coworker here. Nope. I am by myself. Again. My boss came in for a couple hours to help, then left because she had “family stuff”. One of my coworkers was supposed to be here for at least part of the day, but took it upon herself to not show up. Even though she will have the next 7 days off. My other coworker was told to just take the day off.
I get it. I was just out for a week. But this is the first full vacation I have taken in the year and a half that I have worked here. They have taken numerous vacations as well as random days off. So I don’t feel my recent vacation was really a contribution to them getting yet more random days off. Especially when one of them only had to work today then was going to be off for the next week. I don’t get that. I didn’t get a random “just because” day off before my vacation. And I have actually been here every single business day in the last half a year. While they’ve been on and off countless times, for whatever reason they can find.
My approach to this is just…not really working the rest of the day. And leaving early. Why should I be the one working the most for less pay? Yeah, that’s the other thing. I get paid less than my two coworkers. Yet I am here more than they are. Go figure…
Oh! And, as my boss was leaving for the day, it almost sounded like she was going to tell me to leave a little early. Then says “go ahead and leave at…pauses…5.” Um…5 is when we close. We leave at 5 every day. Did you think I was going to volunteer to stay late on top of everything else or something? Gee thanks for the permission to leave on time I guess…
