Layoffs have changed my job

Since the beginning of the year we’ve laid off over 60 people in hourly positions while no overhead positions were laid off. Their excuse was that sales had returned to 2019 levels and so the staffing had to mimic that. Many salary positions were added and yet not a single one was laid off. You’d think the workflow would adjust to 2019 levels but actually we are busier than ever and keep getting more tasks absorbed into my department of 9 people. When discussing burnout with my managers they say “well that’s why we pay you what we pay you.” I’m tempted to just flat out refuse the additional work because it wasn’t in my original job description to perform. Even if I get laid off I get a severance and finally can be free from this toxic work environment. Should I just be grateful for a job? Are other…

I’ve been there 10 years and this is the first ever layoff but a completely new management team. I’ve been forced to change shifts, fly to help out other branches and work overtime and I’m just sick of it but I’m not sure if everywhere is experiencing this?
