For all the stories here about businesses that won't let employees have a day for a funeral, birth, wedding and other significant life events, I thought I'd share something I saw on Facebook.
There's a really nice deli a couple of blocks from my house that I follow on Facebook for their daily specials. It's a Mennonite-run business that is filled with amazing meats and cheeses and sandwiches. They have tables for customers and it's usually pretty packed.
The other day they posted this to their page:
Diamond Square Market
Due to an employee graduating we will be closing at 4:30pm on Thursday, May 30th . Congratulations to A**** M***** and Class of 2024!
It's not a family business. (Though they're likely all the same church.)
The girl who graduated wasn't the owner's kid, just a regular employee.
They didn't just let the girl off for her graduation, they closed up the shop and went to show their support for her.
Wouldn't it be something if more employers showed a modicum of human decency like this?
