AITA with great knowledge comes great feelings of regret

38M Autistic, I know it may seem like I am in the wrong forum/subreddit but hear me out. A few years ago, I was at my local dry cleaners, collecting my shirts. I used their after-hours locker system, due to them closing before I got there. They would provide me the locker number and the pin code to unlock it, via SMS, yet at the same time, they were updating their computer systems, and sometimes the code they gave me, just didn't work. FYI the keypad lock they used for their lockers is a Mini K10 PIN Lock. I spoke to one of the workers and told them what was going on (I think he was pretty new) and he gave me the master code to unlock the lockers (all of them) in the event, the code they provided to me, didn't work.

Thinking at the time it was exclusively for the drycleaners, I almost forgot the code and when I moved away didn't think about it, until…

At work we installed the same locks on our lockers in our End of Facilities changerooms, and when I was with my boss at the time, checking on them, I walked over to one of them, and casually said.

“What happens to these when the code gets lost?”

He said they have to change the entire unit, it is impossible to get in there and ends up costing a lot of money for callouts over time, sometimes when people forget their code, they just leave it unlocked and close the door… why do you ask” I said “I bet you I can open it” “he of course said “bullshit”

I told him the entire above story, he looked doubtful, I said “bet you $20 bucks” he said go for it, I put in the master code and the locker unlocked, my boss paid me.

TLDR

AITA for knowing the universal code of the Mini K10 Pin Lock system, all of them have the same code.

Now I know a long potentially exhaustive google search would have probably given me the code eventually, from someone who uses it for evil intent, but I only want to be a source for good, I want to have it as an “in case of emergency, break open glass” like if a partner couldn't access their locker, or whatever reason came up, but then my boss (who forgot the code the second I showed him again) said “people will think you will use it for evil, I wouldn't make it public knowledge, that you know the code, if things go missing or something like that, who will they accuse… you, even though you didn't do anything, you are the one who knows the code”

TLDRR

So even though the company, who makes these, has a universal code, for all of its products, that NEVER CHANGES, AITA for knowing it and wanting to use it for good, instead of evil?
