Anyone else feel trapped by their job?

I’ve been working at this office for about a year and a half now and for the most part it’s been nice. Nice people, atmosphere, amount of work etc. when it came to time off everything was a bit rocky, only one person could take off, just find your own coverage and notify the managers. Didn’t matter if you had PTO or were using unpaid time, all the mattered is if you did those things as said before. Now, my job released a new policy saying you can only take 10 sick days a year and 20 unpaid time off a year as well. If you have a loss in the family they require an obituary and if you’re sick they require a doctors note. And it has to be on the list of ‘approved reasons’ one can have time off. At this point in time, I had so many plans to travel and take college courses and now I can’t because I’m trapped by my job.

This whole thing about having to have evidence for your time off is ridiculous. I should not have to explain to anyone that I’m leaving because my grandpa died or I have pneumonia. I’m my own person and should be able to just take time off and have peace of mind. I feel trapped, like the only way I can take time off now is if I quit, but I’m held down to it. Anyone else feel something similar?
