Are my expectations too high?

So I am employeed at a big box retail. 3 years with the company as assistant manager at 2 locations within the region. Strictly there for the $$. Loathe the employee “politics” (my team would never know how despicable my thoughts are) , but can customer service outta thin air. Anywho, in those 3 years, I've worked under 5 different SM's and 3 DM's. It's a very networky, cliquey, “boys club” environment. Not me at all, I'm there to do a job and turn a profit. I don't need more friends. Therefore in an effort to escape that “posse”, I've expressed interest in becoming the SM at a new location slated to be opened.

Consequently, this new DM feels I need a “project” to further my development and prove my “worthiness” as a new SM. Ultimately, this is simply a way to get me to travel to a store 130 miles (one way) from my typical commute and home for “6-8 weeks”. I'm expected to turn the morale and metrics around before the holiday season in an effort to boost profitability.

If you've made it this far, thanks for being invested. The company has offered to cover lodging and meals during this period. The pursuit of me becoming a SM hinges on the success of this period. The location in question has been through 3 SM's and 6 ASM's within a year's time. I have no idea how the team is currently operating, or the quality of the team in question. I know it is a high theft location. I know that the inventory is not well maintained and the freight area reflects that.

I'm also pursuing other things outside of this employment in an effort to establish substantial, sustainable income. This is just currently paying the bills. Getting the SM position I originally showed interest in was means to an end and isn't deteimental to my life. What say you? What type of perk should I expect? Request? Would this situation warrant a wage increase over the 6-8 week period as I “play boss”? Do I decline the offer? Is this normal policy? I'm on my way out, I can feel it. Until then it's what pays the bills.
