Are younger people held to higher standards at some workplaces

So at my current job I've noticed that it seems like my other coworker (30) and I (23) are fussed at for being on our phones while we work, usually watching YouTube videos or something like that for background noise while we work; however, we exceed our standard efficiency every week. We work indoors and not around any heavy machinery so there aren't any hazards we're being distracted from. The rest of our coworkers are in their mid 40s and up but one coworker in particular (same position as us) misses a day of work about every other week and will spend half of his week watching YouTube, not working at all, and nothing happens.
