Thanks for Calling Me a Cog
Thank you, I feel so motivated. Great workplace value. Who thought this was a good idea?!
More than year ago I quit my job at a company that was not giving a damn about it’s employees or customers. It took me a while to do so, as I kept thinking „maybe I am just too sensitive, maybe things will get better, maybe Blabla“. Fast forward to today, my former colleagues are still miserable, face even worse treatment and are surprised on a daily with more stupid decisions from management. So I don‘t know who needs to hear this, but if you have a bad feeling, do not waste your time or energy for a bad company. Find something else, take a break, do your own thing or do whatever works best for you.
Stop calling it 40 hours per week.
This is approximate: Weekdays: 57.5 hours Prep for work (pack lunch, look presentable, etc.): 0.5 hours Commute: 1 hour Work 8-12: 4 hours Unpaid lunch: 1 hour Work 1-5 (if you’re lucky enough not to stay late): 4 hours Commute: 1 hour Weekends: 3.5 hours Laundry (work clothes): 1.5 hours Grocery shopping (work lunches): 1 hour Meal prep (work lunches): 1 hour Total: 61 hours Add in other errands, chores, exercise, and sleep…plenty of time left for “self care” /s Edit: deleted gas for more realism
Delusional
First time post here, but I had to share this as the integrity of the people I work for has been falling hard lately. My company sent out a newsletter asking for free volunteers for an all day event in a city 3 hours away, for $50 in gas that doesn’t even cover the trip and a free lunch, event ends at 9pm with no free accommodation so you would get to drive back and be home at midnight yay.
So, my bf and I got mega screwed over recently and it's been very stressful because of it. At this point in time, rent due in Aprol was not paid, and was considered “late” on May due rent. He had changed his availability at his old job, and his hours were cut because he wasn't needed so much during his new available hours. So, money got tight. This was before I moved in with him. I was out of work from my job for 6 weeks, due to a concussion I received on the job, but wasn't eligible for workers comp because my Dr note said I could return to work the same day with heavy restrictions. (I.e. those restrictions being everything the job was). This was in March/early April) so I had no income during those 6 weeks. Anyway, early May I moved in with my bf, having finished…
–[Redacted] will be closed on Monday & Tuesday in observance of Independence Day– “Corporate has decided that we will be taking Monday and Tuesday off for the 4th of July. So we're gonna have a 4-day weekend.” But the 3rd will not be paid unless you put in for PTO” AHHHH, BULLSHIT!!!
I work for a home warranty company in which it is pretty small but the team I am in literally carries the company. Authorizing claims, dealing with escalations, part orders, calling homeowners to tell them what the coverage offers ect. The past year has been a train wreck our team went from 20 people to 5 working employees -7 if you include the leads. Throughout that time we have picked up loads of delayed claims , escalations , calls , you name it. I got a good raise my first year a 6 percent which is unheard of. My second year I literally did more than my whole team got so many shoutouts ( btw no bonuses here but we get gift cards one a year if we drive to the training office 45 minutes away) and all I got was a 60 cent raise bringing my hourly to 21.93…
