This is super old, but i took this picture while I was working at my very first job. It’s always bothered me. None of us employees got to take any weekends off for the month of December, plus everyone had to work on Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and New Years Day. Spent 3 Christmases and other big holidays serving customers at good ol Dennys. Fun times!

Before you go to war in the comments, please read this post 🙂 This subreddit used to be a good place to debate and talk about how to improve your workplace or exit a toxic workplace. It was awesome and helped me improve life for me and my workers. All thanks to this subreddit. But now it is filled with hatred and disgust against any rich person in the world, who has a different opinion than us. I am not talking pro-capitalism, but overall regarding workplace environment. It saddens me to see this decline of the subreddit, and I wish it would turn back to the good old days with fun debates and how to improve workplaces. I know there are sometimes posts that spark these debates and other posts which ask for advice. This is how the sub should be, not filled with hate.
Rant… academia, finances, harassment
TLDR: my workplace f*cked me over and made me too depressed to do anything about it, i feel stuck I don’t really know where to start. I’m f21 and have studied physics and worked as a research assistant at my university for the past three years. In hindsight there were rad flags right from the beginning (that I happily ignored because the work itself was great). My PI was extremely busy plus he had health issues so I didn’t see a lot of him. He delegated (not officially) all his responsibilities in managing and teaching me to his phd, that was relatively young for a phd, 25 at the time. That worked okay for a while until we were sent on that multiple month work trip. My PI told me the day before they had to change my contract for that time. I asked him what that’ll change and he…
Doing the dishes
So i work in an office environnement with 10 staff . When i first starten working i asked if there is a schedule about Which does the dishes. Respons : basically we just do what feels natural. Every body does his fair share. Translated because i am first usually in the office this means that i do it like 90% of the time . On top of the work load i have in the office .
That work from home stuff going away.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEoFJVQfx-w The first step is three days a week at the office. Then it's back to five days a week at the office. If workers give in to step one, step two will soon follow.
I work a Fast Food job. We are so short staffed that the Corporate HQ people (for the franchise, not the overall company) are having to come and work in stores. Accountants, Logistics, Finance, HR, etc. are coming in and making burgers and fries.
Not giving my age obviously, but I'm not old enough to move out I'll say that much. I constantly see people's personal stories online, crazy behavior from large companies, and terrible attitudes towards these issues from the wealthy. “Just work harder and smarter” Absolutely delusional. Anyways, I'm not looking forward to what lies ahead. I see first hand how hard my parents work at their jobs to just afford housing costs as middle class/lower middle class. They don't even have low paying jobs. I don't see how I'm going to be able to take care of myself and I think unless I do something drastic I'll have to stay with them for awhile. I like them a lot, but I think I'll be missing out on some important experiences. Right now I'm working a lot to get good grades so I can possibly get into a college and then eventually…
I was then asked what do I bring to the company that’ll help improve it, which I wasn’t sure what to answer?
Do you need someone urgently or not? I’m not wasting my time doctoring up a resume when I have a masters degree. I just need some extra cash.
