Poor scheduling

I work a job where my day is typically 8-4 with the exception of overtime on some days, lately my boss has been scheduling appointments where I have to come in early to hope to make it on time, my time is important to me, what can I say to make this stop?

How to deal with PIP?

Recently I had a meeting with my managers and a HR rep. Long story short, they decided to put me into Performance Improvement Program (PIP) for a number of reasons which half of those issues I managed to counter argue though still they didn't care. Out of all points, the main point highlighted is “You do work but we no see you work so you no do work”. At the end of the meeting the HR rep explained a few things on the objectives and that's it. Safe to say I'm feeling pretty bumped right now and highly demotivated because never in 7 years of my career being placed in PIP let alone called for 1:1 (except for KPI review) due to performance issue. Since I have 3 months to go through this PIP, how do you guys suggest me to go through the program? Any other inputs are welcomed.

Asshole boss is asshole

Og, pleas redirect me if I'm on the wrong community but I need help. My boss is utterly ridiculously unreasonable, he manipulates and gaslights me on a daily basis, all i want to do is cut ties with him and never look back. But I work on a ship and he is kinda my only way into the company and I need his recommendation to be hired. Thing is. The rest of the crew is fantastic but this donkey makes my life fucking missreable. So the question is how do I deal with him while also dealing with some mayor personal problems?. I can't ignore him, but I need to keep my sanity. I still have 5 weeks left of my contract. A little background info, on my midway evaluation he basically wrote I'm useless and a terrible person ( he handlet it to me and went “sit down, read…

Employee owned companies vs. companies owned by investment firms

Anyone work for employee owned company here? Would be interesting to hear opinions around culture, lifestyle and overall satisfaction of both types of ownership in a company setting. I may be jumping to conclusions, but it seems that having a company like BlackRock own your employer vs. employee owned company may be the reason for so much inequality in the system. Example – company owned by investment firm produces a profit and is paid to the investment group and not reinvested back in human capital, development, new technologies or just raising wages of workers. Investment firm will demand same amount of profit next year plus some. Don't meet the requirement, they'll slash spending, layoff etc to ensure they get their return.

I used a connection and went over my boss head

This is an update to an older post. To sum up my manger refused my transfer request and told me I should quit or move to another branch very far away and as long as he is my manager I’m never going where I want to. I literally begged him for week and he still won’t change his mind, so i went over his head. I know a guy who’s dad is one of the big seniors at my company. I’m talking about like six positions higher than my manger. His receptionist called my boss and told him to approve my transfer. He lied and told them I changed my mind then called me in and told me I still wont be transferring and to stop “bothering” him. I called the connection back and oh boy he was pissed. Next week my boss and his boss are going to an…

Saw this and was disgusted.

This isn't normal. People lucky enough to retire shouldn't need to find a job. This is the opposite of retirement. If the retiree WANTS a job to have something to do, that's one thing, but older people needing to work until the grave is the capitalist dystopia that is becoming reality.

Can we please finally get rid of the “get a real job” mentality.

I’m a full time unpaid caregiver to two physically and cognitively disabled parents. For years I’ve had to depend on server and gig work jobs just to get by. This was not the plan I had for myself but that’s life and I’m doing my best to adapt. I will never understand the dehumanization of people who work “low income”“unskilled” labor jobs. Anytime you even mention the unethical practices of these companies the very first thing I hear is “get a real job”. What exactly is a real job?As if low wages and zero benefits is a personal choice that I have made for myself? These are the very same jobs that were propped up as the “heroes” during the pandemic. This mentality is only for the benefit of exploitive companies. My self worth and value does not come from the amount of money I make. Anyone who is able…
