I have been looking at this sub reddit for quite a while and figured I would ask to see what Lind of insight I could get. I desperately need to get a job in my area or remote work but I just never seem to find anything that works. A lot of entries on websites usually say there is a “required to meet in person” or “this day is in the office”. I have no real way to act on these offers because I have no transportation for myself to reliably show up to far businesses. I live in the St. Clair County area. If any of you have some kind of tips or help I would greatly appreciate it regardless of what it is.

I’ve just been given a second and “final” warning letter from my supervisor of 3 months. This is at a company where I’ve worked for 8.5 years with no problems. The letters generally deal with how I speak with her and that I have a negative attitude. Words like “aggressive” and “dismissive” are used and frankly, the documents are so exaggerated and over the top that I would consider them dishonest. This came about as I had applied for a different position internally that would have been a better situation for myself and my family, but now that I have the second letter on my file, my application will be rejected. I have a young family and am fairly confident I will be able to find new employment but rather than quitting, I want to get let go so I can qualify for some type of compensation. I’ve gone on…

Artificial intelligence is almost to the point of replacing lots of jobs and not what you might think. Doctors, accountants, bankers, customer service, fast food, counseling, teachers and pretty much anything that can be done with a computer interface and robots. Go over to Khan Academy and watch AI teach kids with empathy and kindness. Imagine if your AI doctor would have the power to diagnose conditions correctly using the power of all the medical knowledge in history including ones that were just discovered. Trade jobs will be safe but almost everyone at fast food will be gone. Once companies catch on to AI they will replace most people. And the government won’t help anyone since they are controlled by lobbyists. I am in automation and robotics but AI is starting to become more powerful.

I don’t think I’d be any worse off if I’d chosen a dull, mind-numbing career instead of choosing to do the thing I’ve been passionate about since I was a toddler. My working life would still make me depressed and stressed and run-down. At least my passion would have stayed as a passion, something I do for fun on the weekends. I’d still love it and feel alive when I practise it. Instead, my job has made me hate and resent it. There’s no magic in it anymore, I don’t get excited talking about it anymore. It’s just the thing I kill myself for, to make someone else wealthy and successful.
