Cue the tiny violin

This is a UPDATE from my previous post: https://old.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/13r7n7u/my_manager_collected_donations_for_me_but_kept_it/ I just want to clear something up since I've gotten harassed over it. These donations were collected less than a year ago after our whole office had been strictly WFH due to covid. I continued working from home until I couldn’t, which was last week. I wanted to give everyone an update because some were asking for it so I hope this is OK. I used a compilation of some of what you all said and emailed my coworkers from my personal email explaining the situation and requested they get their money back because none of it was actually donated to me. I also requested they send a screenshot of the donation as proof so I could see what I could do legally like pressing charges or small claims court. Mainly wanting proof this actually happened. So over the weekend 8…

I got laid off yesterday

I can’t say I wasn’t surprised. Everything had gotten really weird beginning of 2nd quarter. I was hoping I was just being paranoid, but turns out I wasn’t. I tried working extra hard, not taking time off and contributing extra to meetings. Turns out none of it mattered. The “business needs changed” and they need someone with different experience than mine apparently. The experience they are looking for is actually on my resume if the new manager would have taken the time to talk to me and learn my strengths. They are “being generous” by not ending my employment until 6/1. My manager couldn’t even be part of the call, so I didn’t get to ask questions or say goodbye to the team. Moral of the story, take that time off because work will be there when you come back and don’t ever do anything extra for someone that wouldn’t…

It is normal for volunteer work to require the same amount of paperwork done in order to volunteer my time freely?

I have been trying to get volunteering experiences (office assistance/front desk related) in order to explore other career fields. I was a teacher and don’t plan to continue anymore due to obvious reasons. However, a few of the volunteering work (hospitals/ non-profits) require me to send in a work resume, live-scan, info form for new volunteers, and participate in an interview…This process sounds like a regular paying job? Also, I once apply to be a hospice volunteer and I was informed to pay them a fee in order to do so… To me, this whole process doesn’t make sense since I’m doing free work for these organizations and they are asking too much from me. Anyone had similar experiences when transitioning career?

Am I crazy to consider leaving after this stunt?

So at the beginning of the year we had an official schedule of events going to be going on for the entire year (I work at a business/conference center). Anyway my best friend got engaged last year and told me that he wanted me to be his best man but not to worry on the traditional best man things because he knew I had a busy schedule. Anyway flash forward to 3 months later (this would be in February) and he gave me the details on when and where he wants to do his bachelor party (it’s across the country). I look at my schedule and it’s a few weeks before his wedding and it’s the same exact weekend that my job is hosting a training seminar of new recruits (roughly 180 people). So what did I do? I put in a formal request to be off for that weekend…

Boss wanted to pay me next to nothing with no raises and expects me to be a gold star worker.

I worked for this guy installing windows and doors for a year. I live in Arizona so the summers are brutal. Basically he already has a couple guys that have been there forever and the other two positions are a revolving door because he doesn’t pay well, it’s hot as hell, and the two revolving door guys have to do all the heavy lifting. So I finally quit after getting in an argument last Friday because I was two stories high on scaffolding and i couldn’t reach the top window so I had to put a workbench on the scaffolding plank to grind out the window and I thought why am I risking my life for people that don’t appreciate it. And oh yeah no one told me and the other guy that we weren’t working Monday so we showed up to work and no one was there.
