Need some advice! Please!

Hello all, I’m not sure how to help my aunt. She got laid off almost a month ago and I helped her file for unemployment (NJ) the same week she got laid off. She hasn’t received anything. Does it usually take long? Also, her co worker suggested my aunt should lawyer up. Her co worker thinks it unfair my aunty was laid off possibly because she’s older. The co-worker thinks it’s not ok they laid her off when she’s been working there for over 5 years and has legal status when there are undocumented workers who haven’t worked there for long and are temp workers. Does this sound like it could go somewhere? Open to any suggestions. Thank you for your time.

full time hours as part time employee

i just got hired as a pharmacy technician at CVS i haven’t started yet but i received my schedule for my first 2 weeks. The first week i’m scheduled 27.5 hours and the second week i’m scheduled 37.5 hours. These are not including my break so really it’s 30 hours and 40 hours of my time. during my interview it was agreed that i would be coming on as a full time employee but a few days later the manager messaged me saying they only need part time now. I’m not stupid i obviously knew they were just doing this so they don’t have to give me benefits and at CVS full time benefits start at 30 hours. I’m 21 and i moved back home recently, i figured i don’t really need to be working full time right now so i accepted anyway. idc if they wanna have me on…

I finally applied to one job after quitting my old job that traumatized me! Baby Steps…

From September to April, I worked in an abusive work environment. I wrote about the trauma it has caused me before. After weeks in therapy, I finally applied to a new job. I am slowly building up my confidence to work again. For so long, I believed that I couldn't do anything right because of my ex-boss. I am gaining confidence and hope to work again in a healthy environment.

Capitalism and Slavery

Capitalism and slavery are distinct institutions only through obfuscation of their guiding principles. Although proponents of capitalism celebrate the economic growth and individual freedoms allotted by capitalist society, they fail to recognize its ethical and moral implications. We would be remiss to compare our moral condition directly to that of the slaves, but we would be more remiss not to. Both systems are principally exploitative. Directly forced labor via slavery is clearly criminal, oppressive, and dehumanizing. On the other hand, capitalism utilizes wage labor, which allows some semblance of choice and freedom, even if it is the “choice and freedom” to work for the owning class or starve. Capitalist society fails to address the power imbalance between classes that allows for the wage arrangement to be considered beneficial and somehow morally correct. Low wages, long working hours, and poor working conditions leads many workers to a cycle of poverty and…

My company withheld my personal important documents from me so that I couldn’t go anywhere else to work

I work abroad in a country which requires specific official documentation and qualifications to work in the job that I do. I have all of these documents and have had them notarised and authenticated by the necessary people. When I got stuck outside the country in 2020 when flights were stopped because of covid, my company helped me remove all my stuff from my apartment and clear it out. This included all of my important documents, which I had kept in one particular spot so as to keep them safe. When I returned to this country and company after the borders opened, I got my things back and noticed my official documents were nowhere to be found. I chased it up with my boss, with the girl who cleared out my apartment and with my old landlord but they never turned up. Fast forward two years and a bit and…

I was harassed and followed at my job, by another employee and no one helped me.

This happened YEARS ago but I was just reminded of this. I was working at a grocery chain where you can shop left. I was in the bakery section and I thought I was being hired to decorate cakes. Nope, not that. Oh well, I had a 10 month old, I needed a job and it was close to my parents so my mom could watch said child. Both of my parents have heart problems. Since my child was so young and my mom was alone, if something happened, I needed to have communication on me. I refused to leave my phone in a locker. This will come into play later. There was a baker who was a tall drink of asshole. He apparently would pick one person in the section and just make their lives hell for a week and then do it to someone else. This young guy…

Is 8-5 normal for salaried positions??

I don’t have a ton of experience on salaried positions but I was always under the impression that the standard was 9-5, and if you wanted a lunch break 8-5. I’ve had two job interviews recently where the mandatory hours are 8-5 and with an hour lunch break. I feel like if a lunch break isn’t optional than it’s a 45 hour week not 40. More specifically, I had an interview recently where they brag about having a 36 hour work week as one of their new innovative benefits. When I asked about it office hours, I was told you have to be in office 8-5 four days a week and then 8-12 or 1-5 on the fifth day which is still a 40 hour week. My mom told me this was pretty normal but it feels incredibly manipulative to me. Especially for an office job where I know you…
