It’s shit but it pays well, anyone else in case like this?

My employer has me in 2 different roles, one that I like and I'm good at even though it's more work, and another that I hate and I'm not very good at, guess which one I have to invest more time in? What I hate. In addition, I have now been assigned a third role, which is to cover the holidays of a person whose work has nothing to do with either of the other two. Now the things at work that I hate are piling up, and with that they are putting pressure on me, I'm getting anxious, producing less, feeling tired all day and affecting my other functions, making me look like a bad employee. I think life is too valuable to waste on stresses like that, but it pays me relatively well and I'm afraid I won't find something that pays well again here in my country.

Left from retail and have no regrets.

Hi guys, Russian fella here. Have been working as a store manager for two years. 12 hours shifts, 5 days per week, 2,3$/hour in dollars. In Christmas we had to work for 14 days non stop due to high tragic and increase in customers. Left it couse had no time for regular life and due to psychological problems that was caused by stress. Now working as a manager of supply department. 5/2, 8 hours shifts, still 2,3$/hour but it's fine. At least I have a time to live.

I want to save money and pay stuff off quicker than I can, thanks to cost of living etc. Applied to a few jobs in my old industry. My previous security company is already helping me find what I am looking for and being super nice. So fuck these weirdos. I also fixed the Pershing autocrorrect error before sending this email. Lol

Horrible training: Thrown to the wolves

Started a new job at a company a few weeks. They have us in loads of training which is great, but is not really preparing us for the role. We are currently on real calls and it’s been a hot mess. From what we learned in training and being on the real calls, we have been f*cked over! Was told that we can’t shadow or have small group training because “they don’t have enough experienced associates for that”. It’s a nightmare and headache. I want to leave, but unfortunately I do have bills and other responsibilities. It’s a tough spot to be in, but I feel like we have been set up to fail. This week of calls don’t “count” towards certification, but based on what I’m seeing; most people will be quitting or won’t pass.

PSA: Nobody cares about your health but you

Ive got to vent somewhere so ill post here. Either mental or physical, your health is your responsibility and do not take your employers or coworkers for concern for your health for granted. I work construction for HVAC installation. Long story short we work with Duct Seal that is known to cause cancer, nervous system issues and infertility. Says it right on the label. Nobody reads the shit. They sent one of my coworkers into ductwork with it to seal from the inside and he passed out from lack of adequate ventilation. They expected this to happen as thankfully they had tied a rope to him to pull him out. There was not any precaution in place to conserve his health Save the rope for WHEN he passes out. This is a daily occurence not exclusive to my company alone. We don't get ventilationor respirators and if you ask its…

Why do we still follow a five day/40 hour work week in the US?

(I say US in the title because that's where I'm from and I'm unfamiliar with how the rest of the world does it. I assume it's the same but don't want to assume incorrectly). So, why do we still follow a five day/40 hour work week despite the population of the US growing by over 200 million people since it was first implemented in or around 1926. The population of the US was (approx.) 117.3 million people in 1926 and it's at 334.2 as of January 2023. For the past couple years I've done some thinking about how much time we spend at work vs how much time we actually get to ourselves during our off time. For instance, why doesn't a company that runs three eight hour shifts instead run four 6 hour shifts? Bringing in an entire new shift of workers helps lower unemployment. Spending less time at…
