Trained in one day, bad workplace
So I work every other weekend at a nursing home as a front desk person. I was trained on a Saturday. Nobody knew when I was supposed to leave. One person thought 1 o'clock. One person got told 2 o'clock. I got told 1:30. Nobody tried to contact our boss (probably because I'd later discover she never answers). Sunday came around and I worked alone despite thinking someone else was going to be there. After all the only things I was shown how to do were sorting mail, putting together new resident packets, and how to find a resident's room number. And people kept asking me questions that I didn't know the answers to. I couldn't direct them to anyone else either because nobody in the office works on the weekends and none of the other staff knows the answers either. The only reason I even know how to use…
Moving overseas from the US?
Forgive my likely naive question, seeing as I'm from Scandinavia: With the current conditions in the US that are often described in here, is moving abroad an option you guys consider? I often see people with advanced degrees describing a life of living paycheck to paycheck – what is keeping you from moving to e.g. Scandinavia, Germany, Holland etc.? Currently in Denmark we are lacking all sorts of educated and uneducated employees, and English is fine to get by here, as most people here speak it (and 99% of the younger population does). Apologies if any of the above is offensive to anyone, my goal is not to step on any toes – I'm genuinely curious as to what roadblocks are keeping people from emigrating?
Well I have been projectile vomiting all morning, so I called out of work. my boss said he would find coverage but I'm so worried about retaliation and negative repercussions.why do I feel so guilty? And I apologize if this dosnt belong here.
This is very confusing for me, for reference I work in New York and was a manager in my previous career and we always had separate PTO banks for sick/vacation/personal PTO. At the new employer it's been stated that regardless of the reason for being off, it comes out of the personal PTO bank and that NYS sick time is only if you're out for a prolonged period of time with illness… but isn't that what short term/long term disability benefits are for? I just dont understand and feel scammed out of my legally obligatied paid sick time.
So last night we were super busy, and the place I work at, the bar isn’t the main focus, Nor is the food. But I work in the bar/food department. My lead, who was in the food department asked a manager if we can close the kitchen while he went on his break and was told yes. This place is super stick with breaks, if you miss your time by a minute you get in trouble. So it’s not like my lead had a choice to miss his break, and breaks are WELL deserved. So one manager told us yes, and another ended up buying food right before we closed the food, and he also started telling the customers behind him that we were closing for 30min. So yeah, my lead leaves on his break and me (I’m on my third week bartending, I haven’t done everything yet but I’m…
