I hate this “team activity”. Why the eff must I share my life journey with my co-workers?

I work at a friendly neighborhood grocery store. The last several company parties have been absolute bummers due to lack of organization and communication. Well our store manager recently about 2 weeks ago has promised us a taco truck party to show us appreciation for all the work we’ve been putting in this season.. every work meeting they’ve talked it up so we were getting excited, I brought my cute little family with me from a few towns over just to come, dressed up my kid in a matching outfit so we looked all cute together. We show up, no taco truck, none of the managers seemed to know why either. My manager has asked me to cook every single company event without appropriate compensation, I recently decided I would no longer be willing to because of shit like this as it is, she gets a certain amount $$$ every…

The only thing keeping me going currently is my 2 days off on the weekends and my girlfriend. This seems like such a shitty way to live. I make just over 6 figures, but even at a high savings rate, I’m unlikely to retire before 60 given current cost of living. That’s assuming healthcare costs don’t dramatically increase and social security is still around in 40 years. I absolutely hate the fact that every weekend, I tell myself I will accomplish more during the week and then every night, my girlfriend and I are exhausted and just end up watching TV or playing on our phones. I feel like I can never get ahead and I’m always playing catch-up. I used to think that changing jobs would change things, but it doesn’t. How do people live like this for 40 years?

I wake up at 6:15 AM – sit down at my desk at 7:45 AM – work until 4:45 PM and am home by 5:45 PM. I do this Monday-Friday. This leaves me with just 4.5 hours of free time between 5:45 and 10:15 PM when I go to sleep. In these 4.5 hours I have to do cooking, washing, grocery shopping, house work, call my friends/parents – showering – brushing teeth – relaxing from work. Since my hobbies are reading – gaming – training – I have to spread these hobbies over the entire week. Meaning 2-3 hours of reading is reserved for Monday and Tuesday. 2-3 hours of gaming for Wednesday and Thursday. 2-3 hours of training for Friday and Saturday. On Saturday and Sunday I like to meet with the few friends and family I have left – go out and have a beer. Or just take…

I run a petting zoo and work for a GIANT furniture manufacturer. When I told my line supervisor that I will be taking Wednesday off, he came back to me a few minutes later to say. “I know it's your passion an all, but you know this is a full time job. I can't allow you the day off, they would make me feel this small if I did” did” I only told him as a courtesy. We don't need to communicate about scheduling because that's all done online and via hot line phonecall. You call the robot, report your namen number, reason, and date to be excused. Today was yet another reminder that corporations just see employees as a number. I work from home but my husband is required to go into the office 3x a week. So we moved to a new place down the street from his office so that his commute wouldn't be hectic (Maybe he could bike to work for exercise during the summer?). Two months after we move in, they change the office he needs to go into, for one 30 min further. Then tell us today that they're moving him again to another office 30 min further than that one. It's ridiculous because: His job can be completely done remotely and he's gotten great performance reviews due to the fact that he consistently meets his goals. Okay so I’ll just jump right in. The Director of this company is a total jackhole, she has to be a narcissist or something because there is no way she is this unaware of her behavior. I won’t go into all of the details of what has happened, it would take way too long and I don’t think I would even be able to grasp just how screwed up things are. Pretty much what it says in the title. Applied to a role within my company with a large pay increase ( to me as an entry level worker anyway), only to find out today the position I left is having wage raised to almost the same as me, but no raise for my position. My responsibilities have doubled, and I’m still performing my old job as well as my new. I signed my contract on the 4th April, this comes into effect from 1st April. What’s the actual point?? I feel so blindsided but I guess I drank the kool aid.
