[Rant] Employer-provided insurance doesn’t cover transition

I work for the US government, specifically the state of Ohio, and I’m unionized. I know the state of this country right now and yet I still feel my dreams of finally working towards some sort of gender affirming care have been totally shat on. I was finally booted off my dad’s insurance after turning 26 and tbh I was rather excited to finally be a little more independent and have my own insurance. I go through the benefits of what’s covered and what’s excluded and, whomp whomp, anything related to trans healthcare is excluded. Part of me isn’t surprised and all of me is extremely upset. I pay for health insurance, I put up with deductibles and co-pays, and yet they can’t be assed to cover something that would tremendously improve my life. Idk who picked this insurance provider but they suck. At this rate I’m pretty sure any…

If I continue to work customer service I won’t make it. I’m going to break down.

This A$$hole keeps coming into my job & making my life a living hell. I am so sick & tired of working a customer service job. I’ve done nothing but try as hard as possible to move on & find something better but it’s been nothing but doors getting shut in my face. I am exhausted. I struggle with mental health issues & controlling negative emotions. Having to deal with this verbal abuse on a daily basis is destroying me. I’m not sure how much longer I can handle this. I used to be happy & found peace & joy in the small things in life. But now I wake up every morning just ready to cry because I dread my days so much. 8 years of doing this $hit has destroyed my confidence & self worth. People are so nasty & abusive to customer service reps. it’s horrendous. It…

It’s the audacity…

I’m sure we’re all experiencing our middle management throw out some words here and there that if only we all worked in the office together things would be better, right? As if it’s small clues that our large corpos are trying to think of ways to somehow get over 75% of us WFH force back into an office in the next couple of years so they can truly monitor our productivity. Gross, truly. I’m doing all of the same work and even more so in the comfort of own apartment. Well, because we all WFH we are told how important it is to be a team and get on camera for virtual meetings, as well as communicate with one another on teams. “Be responsive and help your peers! Answer your manger back in a timely manner!” Now it’s being thrown around in our office that being on Teams instead of…

An ice cream machine at a Cold Stone ripped off 3 of an employee’s fingers. Her and 2 coworkers quit immediately afterwards, citing lack of safety measures as well as ethical issues serving ice cream from the same machine (it was sanitized after the incident and is still in use today)

(Paraphrasing the article linked below) In Corvallis, Oregon on March 15, 21 year old Jordyn Martin was cleaning an ice cream machine with a rag when, suddenly, the machine’s rotor wrapped around the rag, dragging it and her hand in and ripping 3 of her fingers off. Her, her coworker, Emily Kilpatrick, and their manager, Abigail Thomas, all quit immediately afterwards. Emily, who bravely accepted the task of retrieving the fingers from the machine in an attempt to have them reattached, said this of the incident: “The rag had pulled her hand in, so that rag wrapped around her fingers and pulled her fingers off until there was pummeled bone and blood all inside of the machine,” Kilpatrick said. “The fingers were wrapped in the mangled rag.” Unfortunately, her fingers were so mangled that they were unable to be reattached. Their manager (Thomas) who closed the store down and rushed…

That time I failed a drug test during a group interview

So, about 4 or 5 years ago, I went to interview for a job at a ThredUp warehouse. They're not listed on my resume even though I did get hired, and they're the one bridge I'm happy to re-burn every chance I get. There were probably 20 of us there for the interview, and every part of it was done in the same room surrounded by each other. They gave us all a saliva-based drug test to take, and I called the interviewer over to quietly tell her that I would get a false positive because my Vyvanse would activate the amphetamine portion. She loudly said to the entire group that “there are no false positives” and that I had to take it anyway. I was young and dumb and didn't realize how big of a privacy violation this was, so I did it. I tested positive for amphetamines exactly…

We can’t do that

My employer is “restructuring” the work schedules and here is a conversation Employer: “No one will lose their full time status. And we will still guarantee all your previously scheduled time off.” Me: OK can we get this in writing with no one will lose their full time status and all previous time off will be honored. Employer: We can't do that. 🤨🤨🤨

I called off work today just because I genuinely didn’t wanna go. I feel guilty now and I hate that feeling

I probably shouldn’t be feeling this way. I always go to work and never call off. Every time I think of calling off I decide to push through and get the extra money. This time though I decided not to push through and now I’m feeling guilty. I work in a warehouse and I’m getting burnt out from the overtime. I just couldn’t see myself going in today. To be quite honest I feel like the only reason I feel guilty is because of the people around me like friends and family that give me shit for not going and make me feel like I’m some kind of bad person which I don’t think is okay. Everyone calls off sometimes but when I do I feel like I’m doing something wrong. I wish I could just not care and go about my day but with the way our society is,…
