Is this legal? It’s in North Carolina. He has to go on a mandatory work trip for 3 days, no expenses paid, forced to carpool and pay his own food, and share a room with a stranger in a hotel OR pay his own way! He is afraid if he refuses they will fire him. What legal options does he have? It is in a month.

Can my job write me up/fire me for this
So I work an office job, and the past few months there hasn’t been anything/much to do on the weekends when I work. I work Friday to Monday, 10 hour shifts. My boss texted me on a day off that I need to come into the office from the 9th-21st instead of working from home because my productive utilization (meaning time worked on jobs) is the lowest on the team. I got told if it’s not fixed immediately I will get my final corrective action and this was 10 days before it all falls off. What do I do?
I missed 3 days last month because I caught the flew from a coworker. I know this may not seem significant, but I work 4 days a week so it was almost an entire work week for me. I then missed today because my grandmother hurt her back and I wanted to be there for her, and I also have been feeling nauseated and exhausted. My job has been exceedingly kind. When I stay behind extra hours to help (willingly, never forced to), they make it equal by letting me leave early on non-busy days. My manager even paid me for those sick days even though he didn't have to. He is a really good guy who genuinely just wants the best for his employees, but I'm terrified to “push”. My grandparents keep telling me that he's “too good of a manager” for me to be calling out so much.…
Hi, I'm in Europe, and like many here, I read with pity & anger the treatment of workers in the USA. How did the situation get to this (very low annual leave, ability to fire without notice, not having much more leave available if you have a serious illness, and not directly work related but very relevant, sky high 3rd level education costs) and was it ever more balanced? Thanks, Pa.
I knew things were tight. But I didn’t know how bad things actually were. I just saw another post from this sub about living wages. So I googled it. Apparently living wage for a single adult in my area is about $16.15/hr. I make $14.50/hr. Why, Louisiana? We have a democratic governor. He has been in a state office position since 2008, and governor since 2016. Why hasn’t he done anything to fix this? State minimum wage is still $7.25. Considering that, I thought I was doing pretty good. I thought maybe I have a spending problem? A quick glance back over my finances showed that yea, I spend on myself here and there. But nothing major. I have so many responsibilities at work, I feel like I should make at least the bare living wage. $1.65 more an hour could be mean a world of difference for my future.…
