“and anything else the business requires of you”

Context: my gf is a domestic abuse victim, fighting her past for several years, she still can't leave the house or talk to strangers. She got a job as a digital customer service employee writing emails and taking web chats, she's been doing that for a year, before she was on phone lines doing the same but had to take several weeks off at a time due to stress and anxiety (hot to love Karen's screaming at employees). So far she's been happy in her role not having to Dela with phone lines but now the company is being sneaky trying to squeeze her onto the phones, it's obvious that it will go from “one call a week” to a week of calls. As all contracts her has”and anything else the business requires you to do”. We are desperately trying to get a doctor's note but it's literally impossible to…

Between low pay and high housing costs (and high rent) what issue seems more fixable?

I think the one issue that can be “fixed” is the housing costs/rent. Lower cost of housing would leave more money in people's pockets for food, ultities, entertainment, etc. Now I know raising salaries would help that as well without needing to make a drastic change in home prices, but given that we see businesses would rather lay people off then spend more on them cheaper housing/rent seems to be the only “solution”.

My employer sent my final paycheck about 1.5 months after my last shift. What (if any) damages are owed or could be claimed? (Oregon)

My last shift at my job was in mid January (provided 3 weeks notice) and my employer JUST sent out my final paycheck (over a month late). On my last day, I left a note with two managers that provided the address to send my paycheck to, and even texted one of the managers the day after to ensure they had my address. I had to leave the country shortly after quitting due to a family emergency and am still out of the country. I understood that in Oregon, I was entitled to receive my paycheck within 48 hrs of my last day since I provided at least 2 weeks notice to quit. I didn’t receive my paycheck within that time frame but was okay with it since I figured I would just receive in the next pay period—though I could have really used the money before then. However, I…

Average amount of time to stay at a job?

I stayed at my first corporate job for 12 years and that hurt me so badly. My tech skills were hindered, and when I left they hired someone else and paid them what I made after being there so long. I went to another business and stayed only two months bc it was a toxic work environment. I’m somewhere now that is ok but afraid to fall into the loop again if getting comfortable and staying too long.

Boss just gave me a 35 euro wedding present.

So, I have worked for the company for 5 years just finished up early today to prep for my wedding next week. As I was going my boss called me into her office and gave me an envelope saying this should cover the cost of a few drinks. I was delighted and thanked her profusely. When I got to my car to open it, it was a card signed by her and 35 euro (a twenty, a tenner and a fiver). Like that won’t buy two bottles of wine. I know I sound ungrateful but she really made it seem like my financial woes were over and she was my saviour! Is she just out of touch on how much things cost or does she hate me? In my five years I personally bring in 6 figures of business. Less than a month ago I won a six figure account…

I used to be full-time $65k, but was told today my position is being cut to 15hrs/wk, $20/hr. What are my options?

Hey Everyone! I’ve been lurking on the sub for a bit, hoping I would never need to post, but here we are lol I’ve worked for this company since 2018. I won’t get into it, but they are very shady. In 2022 I decided that I wanted to move to a different state and told my boss, who I was close with, that I planned on moving. She mentioned this to The Owner of the business who offered me to keep my current position even after I moved. This is because she wanted to expand the business into that State and having someone reliable there already would be helpful. I tried to get some kind of contract for the position, because I do not trust The Owner, but she refused saying she doesn’t do contracts. The company never expanded into the State that I moved to due to fears of…
