I am venting but i hope this is a cautionary tale for anyone else coming to a “right to work” state. While working as a nurse in North Carolina in 2021, I got COVID and applied for unemployment for the first time in my life. I was sick and didn’t understand the instructions so I called unemployment 4 times to make sure I did it right. They assured me that all I had to do was wait. Then I was told I didn’t fill something out and missed out on $8,000. Total unemployment I received was $1,800. Now the website says that is an overpayment and I have to pay the money back. They do not acknowledge my appeals. I attempted calling. After waiting 50 minutes, I hear, “there is no one to assist you. Try again later.”
“Right to work “ is the only right you have. If you are in industry and you get hurt, good luck.
